Title: Funes Mori
Post by: Escla on December 05, 2017, 06:01:45 PM
Should be back in the new year, reckon our new coaching team could get something out of him ? He has a contract untill 2020.

Honestly forgot he existed until I saw his twin playing the other day, I like him and think Allardyce would as well.

I think that playing in an Allardyce team might just suit him. He will be left in no doubt whatsoever what his role is and will be able to concentrate on defending, rather than pissing about knocking the ball across the back.
I get the feeling that he's the type of player that Allardyce will like having around. Yes, he is a bit rash, but he has that little nasty streak too. If S.A. can channel that nastiness into more controlled aggression, we may not have to rush out and buy a centre half.

Would like to see him play in next years Derby if Origi is back at Anfield by then.

desperately needed in the side at the moment as he offers some pace and ability to defend in the air (shortcomings aside)

however if we handle the window properly I fear his return is going to be timed wrong as hopefully we'll address this need in January

Personally think defensivelyy he is quite poor in the air

can't be worse than Keane is and Jags and Williams aren't a whole lot better

If Allardyce can continue to get Martina to stay in position then there's definitely hope for Funes Mori.

I think he's absolutely shit to be honest and we should definitely look to be getting in a proper first choice CB.

Wasn't he linked with Barca at some point last year?

It's a weird one as it seems like it will either click for him and he'll be boss or it won't and he'll be shit. You just don't get the feeling that he'll ever be a steady 7 out of 10 player

Physically he's got all the attributes to be a good defender, and maybe a manager with a more defensive stand point can limit some of his more... Unpredictable moments, shall we say?

Always has an eye for goal too. Could be lethal having him up for Sig's laser guided corners.

Yeah to be fair Iíd like to see him in samís organised system rather than bobbyís chaos.

Anyone who was around in the final months of the Martinez debacle needs another chance under a manager who actually knows how to set a football team up properly.

I think to some degree you could look at troubles Keane has had since coming here compared to when he was at Burnley. Managers who do set up a certain way can help mask/lessen deficiencies of individual players.

I quite like Funes Mori, it will be interesting to see how a.) he comes back after the injury and b.) how he does do under Allardyce. I'd be hopeful it'd help his game playing under a manager of this sort.

Itís weird that he attacks our own set pieces well but isnít great at defending them and is worse at long punts down the middle where I think he gets distracted with the physical challenge.

Yeah he's a proper threat attacking wise but seems to get caught underneath it defensively

The only problem with players coming back from long term injuries is you never remember the weekly shite they do actually play and for this reason Iím out,,,,,,

Says six to 9 months from mid July  so possibly back mid January, most likely mid March.

I don't trust him enough. Too many farts in him. I could tolerate that if the rest if him was on a level to say Yobo (who also had farts in him) but he isn't.

Like him to be given a whirl to see either way on account of Roberto and Ronald being shite.

I like him but I think he'll always be a bit of loon. It doesn't say much for our defence when we're even wondering if he could be a steadying influence, I can only imagine that playing alongside him must be absolutely nerve wracking. He's a decent enough defender but that karate chop he does as the ball sails over his shoulder needs to stop as do the mad charges out of defence where he then gives it away leaving a gaping hole at the back.

Our goals against with him in the lineup has historically been great. Correlation ain't causation but it sure can be suggestive of it.

Thing is with FuMo is... he's not poor. All the time. He can do well in the air at times. Other times he'll misjudge it completely and get nowhere near.

Unlike some players who seem to have form and it's either good or bad across several games, FuMo seems to go from shit to great and back to shit again with each piece of defending he's asked to do. But I'd still have him over Holgate, Keane and Williams at the moment.

He's a less athletic version of Joseph Yobo.  But with more emotions than a robot.

People have short memories. He's a horrifically bad defender. I hope Allardyce can organise the current options that we have well enough so that this lunatic doesn't have to come near our first team.

Let's not forget "Williams" was a stop gap allegedly till Mori got fit.

And he's better than Williams easy imho .

Williams signed in August 16 and Mori was injured in March 17.

No he isn't. Honorifically bad doesn't apply at all. Short memory and a lack of context seem to be things you   are guilty of in this case. He played under Martinez at one of our worst times defensively for many years.

At least with Mori, there's a chance you can coach the mistakes out of his game. A lot harder to coach pace into somebody. Hope he comes back fit.

His earlier injury left us short hence buying Williams in the summer ...😉

His "earlier injury" was March 17th 2017, he then required surgery on the injury in July 2017 putting him out for a further 6-9 months. Williams was signed in August 2016, 6 months before Funes Mori first got injured. Williams was signed when we sold Stones.

Fair enough thanks for that ....still rekon Mori is the better player if you put them next to each other for games v mistakes surely Williams wins hands down .
