Title: Results over the Christmas Period
Post by: Gary1878 on December 14, 2017, 07:57:23 PM
What are we expecting from the 5 league fixtures we have coming up? I count Swansea in this as it feels like it is near enough Xmas after this cold weather!

Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
West Brom (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)

I think 9 points out of those games is an achievable target.

I thought we decided last season not to do these threads anymore as we get all excited and optimistic and then jinx ourselves, leading to mass hysteria and the destruction of civilisation.

< 4 points = bad
4 points = expected
4-6 points = good
> 6 points = remarkable

To be honest, getting 4 points wouldn't be disasterous. If we could get more than a point from the West Brom/Bournemouth double-away day then we will have done well.

Swansea W
Chelsea L
West Brom L
Bournemouth D
Man Utd L

Swansea at home is, and should be, a banker. Do really think 1 point is acceptable from the other 4 games? Come ed Mick, lad. Let's start having some expectations again. I'm hoping for 10 pts from those games.

i've just come close to spitting out my tea.
10 points?

So beat Chelsea & United or treble our current away wins total?

West Brom and Bournemouth aren't shit.
If they were the 2 home games then i'd be saying 4 points from them 2 games alone yeah.

I'd stretch and say i think we're in for a 'good' Christmas and predict us to get to 6 points. But i wouldn't be wailing/devastated if we only get 1 point from 2 away games and 2 games against Champions league teams.

We'll beat United on New Years Day

Pass it on...

Surely we should be looking to win one of West Brom / Bournemouth? I agree that getting one point between Chelsea and United would be decent, but we have to be looking for at least 7-9 points in this sequence. 4-5 points would be disappointing in my view.

I reckon we'll beat West Brom.

Be a proper boring horrible 1-0 but we'll beat them.  We generally do alright there.

Fancy us to beat one of United and Chelsea too.

Swansea win. I think we can beat one of Chelsea or Utd at home. We've just played awfully and still nullified Liverpool who were playing better than both those teams. Chelsea just lost away at West Ham to a Moyesian defensive blueprint. Utd aren't looking remotely convincing to me.

And for me, we should be beating one of Bournemouth or West Brom (16 games without a win, worst ever run) away.

Only beaten Swansea twice at home since they came back to the PL

Which is weird. We battered them away in that time. Remember that game where we could've had about 10 under Moyes and Pienaar, Baines and Fellaini destroyed them for 90 minutes (think it was 3-0). We should be cruising against this lot on Monday.

Anywhere between 7-10 points will be sound.

Swansea (H) 3
Chelsea (H) 1
West Brom (A) 1
Bournemouth (A) 1
Man Utd (H) 1

7 points and keep the unbeaten streak going.  And that's lowering my expectations, ideally we should be looking to get 11.

Swansea (H) 3
Chelsea (H) 1
West Brom (A) 3
Bournemouth (A) 3
Man Utd (H) 1

not sure of who plays who over the crimbo period,   rest wise etc

Realistically if were sat at 30 points in 9th spot after the MU game,we really will have turned things around comparatively from what went before the SA announcement.Bournemouth and WBA will be tough fixtures, the work starts again on monday 3 points is a must against Swansea.

One game at a time

Swansea is now the most important game of the season and so on and so forth

In and around 30 points after the xmas period is normally the barometer to a top 7 or 8 spot so if we manage that it would be amazing

If the cups are won by the top 7, 60 points is a pretty consistent barometer for the European places. So we're probably a bit behind schedule given the abysmal start to the season, but we're fully capable of going on a prolonged unbeaten run.

Swansea ought to be 3 points. I'd hope for 4 points from Chelsea and United at home in an ideal world, but anything 2 points or better isn't bad. Really ought to be getting 4 points from the two away matches if we're serious about European qualification, but for a top-half finish 2 would be okay.

7 points should be the floor over the festive period. Hoping for 10+, but not sure that's realistic. Would need to see a more substantial return to form on the attacking end to believe that's possible.

Chelsea, WBA, Bournemouth, United - undefeated with four draws!

Liverpool, FA Cup - make that five!

Yes, but was it a good period? 8-9 points would have made it a good period for us, but 5 points equates to expected to me.

West Brom away was a chance missed as they are are terrible form.
