Title: Derby Ratings
Post by: mikey_blue on January 06, 2018, 04:33:21 AM
Pickford 4 - moved way too early for the pen and although I think the second was going in anyway, he didn't exactly get anywhere near the ball. Bad game by his high standards

Kenny 7 - liked a couple of his early crosses and evebtually started joining in on the attack. We miss Coleman so badly.

Holgate 4 - soft pen then a moment of madness. Got better in the second half with some Stones-esque play. Then back to shite when he ignored VVD

Jags  7 - why was he assisting sigurdsson. not a bad performance by him. You come to expect it from Jags.

Martina 5 - not terrible. Good to see that not much of the play went through him today.

Shneiderlin 5.5 - better but still a passenger

McCarthy 5.5- He didnt do much.

Rooney 5 - probably should of been sent off, passing was poor and decision making was all over the place. We did however lose any ball keeping ability when he went off

Bolasie 6.5 - love Bolasie. Should of fed Sig instead of shooting but I'm just surprised he was still standing at the end.

Sigurdsson 7 - I'd like to see his marathon time, he never stops running. Great finish and unlucky that Bolasie didnt play him in. First half was anonymous but we can't expect much from the wing.

DCL 6 - same as always. Works his arse off, but in games like this, you just need that bit more.

Subs

Lookman  7 - Gamechanger. Was upset not to see Vlasic, but lookman was great tonight. Fair play

Davies - N/A
Niasse - Uselss.

Big Sam - good to see him having a pop. Better going forward but still not creating nearly enough. See what else he does in Jan if anything.

Holgate was never a 4, more like a 7.

Not his fault the referee is a cunt.

Positives: We can get a foothold in certain types of matches with an all-passenger midfield duo.

Come on man, he was one of our best players. He was great tonight.

Holgate a 4?

Come on man, he was one of our best players. He was great tonight.

Pushing a player into the fans from behind, lucky to stay on there, regardless of what was said to him,  gave a penalty and let VVD have an open header.

It's all about personal view. Done a lot of good things but was wrong at the wrong times.

Personally would've give him a 10 for that push alone

It was nice to see it like. Especially the square up with the cool nod of the head. But could of left us with 10 men.

Jesus if Holgate was a 4 ,half the team would be minus scores.Yes he was a tad nieve on the pen but the call was an absolute joke, another case of a player feeling the slightest of touches, then throwing himself on the floor.Think the f.a. will have lallana in,don't hold your breath.

Holgates done that a few times, still feels a bit raw. Much much better defender than stones was at this stage in my opinion. Just needs to keep his head around the penalty area foul wise

Horse crap.

Stones was/is much better.

Thatís not to say that Holgates not very good mind.

Thereís a class player continuing to emerge.

Just wish he was about 0.1 Holgates taller. Still seems a little short for a CB.

Blatantly obvious? at the same age he was part of the leakiest most useless CB I've seen at Everton.

In fact in the same fixture against Liverpool he absolutely stunk the place out

But you have to realise that a centre half or a right back can be massively left exposed by formations and tactics

So in that case its not possible to rate any player from the last 2/3rds of the Martinez era? Strange, but ok

Thank you! I thought they all played well tonight compared to the last anfield game although we had a draw, I don't think it's so much the players but our attacking intent is shocking as we just rely on luck off long balls

Pickfords worst game tonight ....shouldn't have moved early for the 'alleged'  pen...or come for the VVD cross .4
Martina (wish he had a left foot)5
Jjk boss as always 7
Jags 7
Holgate 10 👍...just for the push.
Mcarthy 6
Sneids 5
Rooney shite tonight 5
Gylfi 7 just getting better
Bolasie 6 ran out of steam early second half .
DCL ran but shite tonight 6
Lookman 5 great break out needs more games though.
Davies (looked like he wanted to point and laugh at Firmino )
Better display all round but we need Cenk in fast Coleman back asap and to sack Martina off .

Agreed, I like how DCL chases and challenges every game but I don't think there's anything there for potential, championship player at a push.

I thought it was a good overall performance tonight with the exception of Rooney.  You would expect leadership and composure from Rooney but he doesnt bring any of that, very disappointing...

Positives : Holgate and Kenny are growing as 1st team players, both will be great players.    McCarthy back in midfield again brings solidity.

Negatives : Pickford unusually poor.  And much as I like DCL he just doesn't offer enough, especially he doesn't ever seem to win the ball/hold the ball to give the other players a chance to support him...hopefully he will improve this part of his game.  He should have been subbed earlier.

Holgate had a great game

1st goal - not a penalty, a tangle; 2nd goal - Niasse should have stayed near post and Pickford made error of judgement

Stood strong against Firmino and gave him a dose of medicine - that's competitive contact sport, loved it!

We played well. Rooney didn't have his best game, but him and Sigurdson in the same attacking midfield is key for us going forward.

Alternate between Lookman, Vlasic and Bolasie to add a bit of pace.

Edit: but this hinges on our defensive midfielders being able to win and retain possession. I thought Schneiderlin did alright yesterday.. need him on his game otherwise we have to drop Rooney back.

The FA will bottle it about the penalty as Liverfool get away with most things.

Lallana, is a player who gets a lot of plaudits for not doing very much and I don't get all the hype. I also had to look a couple of times as he is trying so hard to look like Joe Allen.

We played well and gave it a real go, lots to build on and hopefully, Cenk will provide the focal point upfront that the team needs.

Not attacking him but if the lad is put in the spotlight by maybe playing at this years world cup , then mistakes like he has made all season to be fair , will see him ripped to shit .

Thought the Liverpool player collapsed theatrically, never a pen, as Shearer said and the panel agreed. Now will there be retrospective action against the cheating Bastard, I doubt it very much.

I think some of the points made are valid (switching off, silly errors etc.) but they can be easily explained by a young player making his way in the game.  Those who watch him can tell there's some real quality there.  I've been impressed with him from early days and nothing's changed my mind.
Title: Re: Derby Ratings
Post by: kramer0 on January 07, 2018, 02:28:01 AM
Kind of a muddled argument. Why even bother with the right back stuff, especially the crossing percentage and key pass numbers? I doubt anyone wants Holgate playing at RB unless we have no other choice.

Young players need games to improve and we've generally been doing fine defensively with him at CB. Let him make mistakes now, when they don't really matter.
