Pretty low expectations for this one, very interested if we've found a striker that will help us build attacks in these types of games where we'll presumably be sitting back.

Edit - just realised this isnít the prediction thread. Still Iím not hopeful for this - weíll sit back far too much and even though we are a tougher nut to crack defensively Kane will end up in the right place at the right time eventually

Don't care that I'm tempting fate but would just like to point out that Dele Alli has been shite.

Tbh we where in a similar situation at this stage last season and went on a good run of form, especially at home - if we get a good run together we can still get 7th again (don't think we will like, but it's possible, burnley will drop off)

Spurs is always a shite fixture for us, but for that period from 2006-2009 where we won at white hart lane 3 years on the spin. Expecting a very defensive set up and a narrow defeat, likely via a Dele Alli dive and harry kane penalty

Agree with the point behind your comment, and I've been guilty of getting drawn into it at times, but it's possibly reflective of the wider fanbase at the moment. Certain decision making at the club has created divisions (hopefully only temporarily).

Nah, they were Inter Cardiff. Barmouth or Harlech have never played in the League of Wales though, they've just bounced around the more local leagues, such as the Gwynedd League, or the Aberystwyth and district. It was sponsored by Konica for only it's first season I think, 92-93.

Slightly worrying that we're on a run of 5 without a win and this is probably a harder game than all of those. Plus we've only scored 2 goals in that time.

I can't really see anything other than a defeat but I'll be hoping for a 0-0.

Best place on south road to watch this?

Overpriced and stinks in there. Why donít you go to Parnells and get a booth with the screen in and hit the 2 for £5 peronis and catch a quick stare at the trashy slags in there

I don't even live in Liverpool but it sounds attractive enough to travel there for an afternoon instead of going to a game.

Good in there, always chocka on a Saturday night, old Bank over the road as well. South Road is great for nights out.

Brought back old times this little section.

Lived on Beach Lawn by the Marine Gardens for 20 years.

Had my 18th in Esperanto's. Got that pissed I ended up sneaking down to the cellar, and sleeping on all the bog rolls. Woke up at 8am, covered in vomit and went upstairs. Cleaner shit herself and called the police on me. Good times.

We seem to have a center forward, who can actually hold up the ball at least till some point. He does need one of the other three to be within passing distance though.

Gylfi shouldn't be on the left and Martina should be enjoying popcorn at the stands. In the end their goal wasn't his fault but he's offering absolutely nothing forward-wise. Bolassie getting closer to his full fitness, meaning one more extra rabona etc incoming...

I think there are certainly positives from Tosun, but our build up is terrible.

I don't think Bolasie, Rooney or Sigurdsson are looking good in this system, not to mention the lack of a forward pass between our defensive midfield pairing.

Those 5 players are where the challenge lies right now, some can be just moved around but others need switching. I'd maybe bring on Niasse for 2 up top as we're only going direct.

Title: Re: Tottenham v Everton

If you don't have real quality in your flanks, you will get hurt by the teams playing counter attacks. We've been exposed there for quite some time now and these have drilled in low crosses all day long. I mean, as a winger if you can't rely on the guy behind you getting at least something done on their own, what can you do? If you drop deeper to help them, you're never getting anything done attacking wise and if you don't you're been blamed for not back tracking.

We opened up and that's like inviting these for a nice dinner.

Therefore shooting yourself in the foot like that and killing the game is difficult to take.

Should collapse like that though.

Need both our first choice full backs in and assume that Walcott might actually play instead of Bolasie as even when fully fit you canít guarantee end product (or even just a sensible pass instead of rolling the ball under his feet).

Was Allardyce really watching the 4-0 v West Ham when Rooney scored a hat-trick and played really well from a deep-lying midfield position?

To be fair I donít think itíd suit him against a side that presses so high.

Poor second half by us But spurs have been excellent this second half to be fair, we won't play many better teams this season. Helped by an offside second goal, that Paws on has been very good for them as well.

I'm not sure, his ball control is excellent, which would be most useful against the high press.

He certainly shouldn't be playing the 10 role, it's just not in him anymore.

Bolasie has been awful since he came back. Lennon at least provided work rate.

It's pretty sad seeing McCarthy back in the mix, forever watching him pass backwards.

Nothing is working in the attacking third though. They're just a bunch of individuals, and not even doing much in that capacity. Rooney, another game where his "experience and leadership" is worthless.

None of our problems seem fixed, we just played some worse teams than we started against and picked up a few points.

So disappointing to see us rolling over week after week.

Pickford needs to fuck off giving the ball straight back to the opposition.

Martina is not good enough to be on a football pitch, never mind at left back.

Kenny is just not up to scratch, blocks the odd cross but that's about it.

Rooney is so fuckin wasteful with the ball, he seems to fuck up the simplest of passes.

West Ham and Crystal Palace could overtake us with a win. There is almost nothing between any of these teams below 6th, sadly including us right now.

I'm glad we got the run of results under Allardyce, but right now we have to get any other signings done ASAP and just trudge through the rest of the games this season.

Some big decisions to be made in the summer, at all levels of the club.

Also, Bolasie Should look at how simple son makes a winger look, no fucking around just pace, power and simplicity

Yes. He has.

But he's friggin 19!!

If our ambitions are to even compete for top 7-8 we can't be having him learn on the job against the top 6.

It's the perfect time for him to learn on the job - we're not achieving anything this year, so his mistakes won't be as amplified as next year when we're fighting for top 4😃. As Coleman is back in training now too, RB is the least of our worries.

See, he was the best player there but all they can talk about is Harry Kane because he scored a couple of tap ins.

I think the injury stopped any hope of him being a major success here.

Genuinely I think he's one of the reasons this current wobble is happening. I don't really know why we switched from Holgate and Williams when it was working, and I don't know why we took Lennon out when he puts in so much work which helps Kenny too.

We can't afford passengers and we have too many in the side right now, and Bolasie is one of the worst offenders.

Lennon doesnít offer much at the top end so in an attempt to improve the attacking heís shoehorned Bolasie back in quicker than necessary, for me.

Think heís swayed a bit to public opinion to go for it a bit more instead of trying to kill the gameís completely.

We were hanging on until the second and looked comfortable eithout threatening them...and then we tried to push forward a bit more and press higher and we got ripped to bits.

It's not just positionaly that we are unbalanced, the mix of youth, players in their prime and experience is way off....we have too many at either end of the scale.

Moshiri is as I keep repeating ,totally out of his depth and flatters to deceive. He accuses players of practicing voodoo, releases press releases via Jim White, (allegedly) needs a second source to fund the club (according to Panorama) and appoints two shit managers on big salaries as our coach.

Today we where wide open yet against Bournemouth and West Brom we play virtually 5 at the back, what is going on? 5 losess, leaking goals and not scoring any.

I'm usually one to go off the deep end but some people have lost their shit on here. We set up okay today, came unstuck from a fortunate goal. I'm not saying we deserved anything but goals change games and they had 1 offside and 2 resulted from miss hit shots. Yes we werent good enough and neither is Sam long term, but he's only been here a short amount of time, he hasn't inherited man city's squad, more one of the worst attacking lineups Everton have ever had. I still go back to the shambles of a summer we had, we cannot let that happen again, ever, if we want to progress and until we sort ourselves out off the field we'll never be good on it.

I don't really exude excitement for any of these players lining up. I mean, I still like them generally speaking, and I still have respect for certain players like Jagielka...but it feels different at the moment. Overall that feels like a pretty sad statement to make as a fan.

Not just talking about Everton but the league as a whole, the point being that has it ever been so uncompetitive. Football is becoming a chore and that in my eyes is that itís on its way out unless things change, maybe itís too late for a change. There are very few players in our squad with a discernible character. Even if it's characteristic flaws, like Pienaar's mighty tackles, Cahill's silky one-touch passing, Yobo's concentration or Osman's legendary shooting power.

Instead we seem to have bought a bunch of bland, identikit meh-merchants. Maybe it feels that way because all the aforementioned players were also really good at something. There is a reason that players like Straq or Manny Fernandes are still idolised, and it isn't just that fans are stupid.

for me the gulf in the top 6 is massive,

everyone one else are mediocre to varying degrees of shite from game to game.

on another note , not sure if been said but sam reckons we need to be more boring
Everton boss Sam Allardyce thinks Everton may need to play a more boring level of football in order to be more defensive and keep clean sheets.
can't get much more with 5 shots in 6 games,

we are always going to have to score the first goal in every game with the player we have, under Sam

The world becoming a smaller place has meant that top teams now buy the best players in the world; thus widening the gap between themselves and the rest.
Thirty years ago you would but the top player from Scotland or the Wales captain and it would give you hope for the season.
Teams main form of income was gate receipts so the top five teams could cherry pick the players from the rest of the division. If a player wanted to make real money he had to play for a top team; a whole career, let alone one contract, at West Ham or Southampton would not set a player up financially for life as is the case today.
But even in those days with our financial advantage we never really made it count. We would back a manager a one player at a time, breaking transfer records now and again, but never signing three or four at once to really challenge the top team. We also never showed any real ambition when it came to managers. Despite regularly being linked with the likes of Clough and Robson we always went for an up and coming manager, in my time it only worked once; Howard Kendall.
I've never known Everton to be ambitious, even when we had more going for us than most teams. I go back to 1975.

Brilliant, appreciate the insight

Ok today was poor second half but that second goal so early was a killer. But the first half was ok and showed some potential.

Tough run of games over now and we can rebuild confidence with some easier opponents. And we are still 9th.

Expecting to play great and take on top teams wasnt gonna happen already. Big Sam isnt a magician.

Was a minor point overall but just before half time the ball dropped to him about 10 yards outside the box.

It just needed a control short pass inside and a run in behind.

Instead he rolled his foot over the ball and lost control of it when it was completely unnecessary.

Is he capable of kicking the ball without rolling his foot over it first?

I remember that on the edge of the box... just create a chance ffs

Iíve said it all along, heís a one trick pony and thatís his trick, every defender in the fuckin league has worked it out.

That isnít a trick, Iíve never seen him beat someone with that. He beats people by knocking it past them and Iíve got no problem with that I think heís good at it, but heís got like a tick for rolling his foot over the ball, every single time itís like an OCD thing. Really strange pointless and not effective.

Even the best wingers are erratic, but they recognise key moments to deliver the goods and bolasie does not - e.g that wild shot in the derby. At 10 mins in and 0-0 yeah sound, at 90+2 and 2-1 down no whatís that about?

No, its some blaming Allardyce.  Which is absolutely fucking bizarre.

What is so bizzare about blaming the manager for us losing 4-0?

I've supported Allardyce, but we have returned to relegation form and he does deserve blame... although the fixtures have been more difficult lately. First real challenge of his tenure; let's see what happens.

The left hand side of the squad is shocking

Baines - past it on the decline
Garbutt - not good enough

And thatís it !

We have no other naturally left sided players.

Sigurdsson wasted on the left and lacks the pace and discipline to play as a winger.

It's absolutely insane we still haven't bought a left back.

It's fuckin nuts. The donkeys building this squad are at 100% fault. It was better when there was no DoF and it was the manager calling the shots. Ffs, someone needs to take the reigns and build this team.

Garbutt needs his chance now in the next couple of home games, this disaster canít be allowed to go on any longer down the left hand side. He canít be that bad that the clown gets the nod before him. Itís now or never for him so letís see.

Did you watch the game?
There is no way we set out to defend.

The managers post match comments where spot on.

After the 2nd goal went in the attitude, performance and professionalism of the players was shocking.

I think Confucius has a point here mate, we defended in the first half and were unlucky to concede a goal which was originally a shot gone wrong. Touson didnít get a sniff first half as he was as isolated as DCL for the last 3 months we upped the anti in the second half and tried to get back on terms when they were awarded an offside goal after that the flood gates opened and we were fortunate only to concede 4.

Itís incredible we know our weakness and where players should be played why are they constantly played out of position or in snides case played at all!

Thatís more because we were rubbish and stopped playing at 2-0.

The line up, plus you could see we left the wider players a bit higher up and Rooney was at 10 rather than in midfield wasnít a sit in approach.

Problem was that wasnít the right thing to do...

Wasnít a pressing thing you could see Sigurdsson right up in the middle when the ball was on the right etc.

Obviously wasnít some mad all out attack thing but definitely wasnít a just get everyone behind the ball one.

You do realise the 2nd goal went in after 47 mins and schneiderlin only came on in the 72nd minute?
Maybe he gave up while still on the bench and shrugged his bib off.

At least give the right players stick.

I was fortunate to watch football from the mid sixties and had the honour of watching the likes of Howard Kendal and Alan Ball play when they came to the old Dell ground in Southampton matches against Everton ,win ,loose or draw ( usually Loose ) these were always fantastic end to end matches as many were during thoses days. The trouble in my opinion is these days too much money, yes players are finacally more secure but they have no real love,/loyalty to their present employeer. Prior to the destruction of football (premier league era) the game was played with passion with truely passonate fans now the fans are treated as cash cows to be milked for every penny they can. I don't think this wll ever change sadly.

The frightening thing about yesterday was that none of the 13 outfield would get in that Spurs team. That shows how far we are behind the top 6.

Whats even more concerning is that our decision makers have the squad on much higher wages than spurs.

Don't find it frightening at all. Humiliating, yes, but not frightening. Only thing I'm frightened about is the amount of shithouses getting paid to don the royal blue shirt. Was gonna say play but they don't. Allardyce can fuck off as well.
