Allardyce looking to offload deadwood

Everton boss Sam Allardyce says he is not looking to expand the squad any further this month until players are shipped out.

I think if you offered me a scrabble style letter swap with our squad where a random new squad was generated using premier league players I would probably take it

Would also take that swap with the manager

We probably shouldn't  be letting him make big signings as he 100% isn't the man to take us forward

So, no more signings, Cuco must be happy, or is Garbutt going to be registered? :bonk: :headbang:

Or even let him decided whoís for sale.

Itís the same cluster fuck we had with Koeman and the DoF role all over again. Our recruitment in all areas associated with the club seems a shambles and has done since Moshiri came in.

Donít think his signings so far, Cenk and Walcott are a shambles, am quite pleased with them.

If one steps back the hysteria over Allardyce in all threads is really interesting to observe.
Not sure that I've ever been aware of it with a new manager at any club in the past with the exception of Huges going to Stoke when someone parked on a bridge over the M6 with a 'Hughes out' banner the day he signed.
It must be quite baffling to outsiders mixed in with some amusement.

Thankfully we haven't.

These two signings are fine and not expensive but were absolutely necessary to improve us even in the short term.

I'd like to see a left back come in, but if not maybe it's because Baines will be back soon. If we can limp over the finish line with Baines for the next 16 or so games, and then find a replacement in the summer, I'd go with that.

Not hysteria at all. Just a lot of people don't like or rate the manager, based upon decades of available evidence.

I must be in the minority but I don't think we've got that much deadwood at all. We've got a big squad but it's not exactly full of the standard of player we had 10 years ago and I don't go along with the fact none of them wouldn't get into many other decent teams in the league either.

I think the squad has been mismanaged, poorly coached and looks devoid of any motivation, which clearly you can't put solely at Allardyce's door as I think the issues run much deeper and longer term than that, but you'd like to see some evidence he can offer a plan to turn things around. He has five months now to show that, with the most talent he's ever had to work with.

How is Besic still here?
Did Bosnia make the World Cup?
Does he not need games?

Surely someone in the Scottish premiership can take him.

I guess we did spend just over £45m in this window so far which a couple of years ago would have been unthinkable.

I agree that a few players will need to move on in order to trim the squad, but seriously though, if there is one position that desperately needs addressing, it is left back. Has Steve Walsh not found one in the last 12 months since Oviedo left?

He wasn't looking because Baines was still fairly ace and nobody, presumably including yourself, could foresee the extent of his decline.  I have not given up the hope that he can get back to near his best for another couple of seasons. He is not that old.

So you think itís a good idea the club lash out a £26m fee and £145k p/w wage on a player the DoF didnít have on his radar 6 weeks back but the manager has been following for the last 18 months and most expect to be off in the summer?

Not a great idea for continuity is it? Like when we bought all those slow number tens in the summer and forgot about replacing the centre forward who bolted.

In plain language you think Cenk is a bad signing and I think he is a good signing, the guy hasnít kicked a ball for us yet so letís see whose right in a couple of weeks, Iíll get back to you on that, and yes, I think Walcott is a good signing too, pity you think they are both a shambles, maybe youíre just the glass half empty type though.

No Iíve asked whether you think itís a good idea to recruit a very expansive player (or two) on the mangers (whoís just walked through the door) say so after telling our DoF heís the man he wants even though the DoF has been searching for a forward for 12 months and never even consider him.

Does that sound like an ideal DoF/Manager senior to you? Especially if the manger is getting the Spanish archer in the summer like most expect?

Of all the heinous things to possibly do to a manger, the Spanish archer is by far the worst.

Yayaya, have a look back through the posts. They sound weird at the time, most people disagree, then end up in same place in due course.

I'm not too fussed about general consensus. People will believe what they want to, and tend to follow crowds, regardless of evidence.

You could have watched Walcott play over last decade, he's been in PL. It's nothing personal, he's fast, but not very good. He got an assist today and think he'll get some goals, but he takes more than he contributes to team. Might be useful as a squad player, but he's on big money.

£20m in today's climate was good business. He scored 14 goals last year in the CL and PL in 26 starts and 8 subs appearances not playing as a striker. Over the decade he has a one on roughly 3.5 goal ratio, again not playing as a striker. We've not had a player like that in years and you want to get rid after one game and one assist.  You're an absolute rocket.

£20m in Everton climate is good business, in PL it's not, we won't make a profit. He can't play as a striker and he's not a creative player. After yesterday, he's got 8 assists in last 4 seasons, roughly 1 in 12 assist ratio, playing in creative role. We've literally just sold Mirallas, who has similar output of goals + assists.

On a smaller pitch, with less creative talent, in a team that struggles to build or create chances. I think all those players are decent squad players, but they are on first team money and struggling to hold down first team berth in a one of the worst Everton team's in many years.
