Maybe making the announcement video was the hold up. When do we get the PL clearance ok?

A back 4 of
Coleman Keane Mangala Baines

Should be decent. Haven't got high hopes of a) ever seeing it
Or b) us defending coherently.

That has to be the most boring video ever. 32 seconds of nothing relating to the transfer and 2 seconds of him with a smile.

At least he smiled I guess.

Hope he does well though.

CB was a definitely a big problem for us still. He's a good age, with plenty of experience. Not been amazing at Man City, but as has been mentioned he might be better suited to Allardyce's style than Pep's. Fingers crossed we can find a reliable CB pairing going into next season (if we think we can buy him next summer should this loan work out). Mangala/Keene/Holgate...Funes Mori?!? to battle it out for CB starting positions?

On a slightly separate note, I think Allardyce (or is it Walsh? I still don't know but at least 2 out 3 of these have a whiff of Allardyce about them) has in fairness done pretty well in this window.

I think our ins and outs were far more thought out with creating a balanced squad in mind. I'd have liked a couple more (creative CM, and a LB in particular but apparently none exist) but perhaps given the mess of the summer less is more in terms of building a squad. Maybe not the best to introduce a plethora of new faces again.

We've tried to address 2 important things in the spine of our team (striker/CB), and have added a goal threat we've been been missing from our wide players.

The Koeman/Walsh debacle this summer introduced more problems that it solved, but I think this one we've done better and have tried to fix the mess created last summer (or before). Or at least, the moves that we have done have made sense (to me). We do need to get better identifying players before they come into the league though clearly, but I'm happy we focusing at least on some of the positions that needed attention. Not rocket science you'd think, but glad we didn't buy 3 more no 10s.

I expect in the summer though an addition to the CM, LB and another striker. I'd also expect some more of the Koeman/Walsh buys to be out the door.

Hoping he plays LB tbh, that may change when I’ve aftually seen him there but a left sided cb with good athletic abilities should be better than a shaky RB (who played wel last night).

Think Distin, and you won't be far off. Ok, left sided, pacey enough, but not brilliant on the ball with a few mistakes in him. A slight improvement on Williams, Jags and dare I say Keane, but an improvement nonetheless. I wish him luck, but you would hope we will sign a decent, young, centre back in the Summer AFTER securing a LB of course.

We have Keane and Holgate for the young, decent centre back aspect. You'd like to hope the next manager comes in and works with/improves those two instead of us becoming a chequebook club from here on in.

Reckon without the technical rigours of a pep defence he might do well. We don’t really have a big physical cb and haven’t since Distin. Keane the closest and he’s slow with a poor turning circle.

I must admit even my mates who are City fans have ridiculed him as he does look totally uncoordinated and all over the place at times but he's big, strong and quick so once he gets his head right, like Yobo, he's probably a very good no nonsense defender.

Shame, always good to have as if a loan goes well you have a chance of getting them for under thier market value. I assume Mangala would cost at least £30m in this market though with City pulling the strings as well... Would be good to see him do well and enjoy it here and maybe we will be able to put a cheeky bid in for him at the end of the season.. Or he'll just be horse shit.

Really don't understand why Williams keeps getting a game ahead of Jags.

Although as I said in the matchday thread, the biggest problem is our defence constantly chopping and changing week after week. No one's had a chance to build a proper understanding with each other.

You think 35 year old jags couldn't do two games in a week, yet he continues to defy people.

Still hasn't lost his pace and has comfortably been our best centre half this season.

Williams should've have had his last game here weeks ago.

Hopefully the end for Williams.

Knowing us, Sam stays on and gives him a 3 year extension.

Williams and Holgate in a 4 though has been our most successful venture under Allardyce so far.

Can't remember the game now, it was a few weeks ago but I remember commenting that Jags legs were far from gone when he easily chased a player down and made a challenge. He's still got good pace for 35 year old and for all his early errors in the season he doesn't make half the fuck ups Williams does on the weekly basis.

Fair play for your persistence like Ram, just unsure what you are basing that on, never seen one good performance from him at all when he was at city and he was beyond atrocious today.

Using the whole "but City paid £42M for him" argument doesn't wash for me, they have an endless pit of money and can afford expensive flops.

Can't blame you at all for taking that point of view. He's been a disaster at City and I'm not going to deny that.

Just think he has all the attributes there, just needs the right environment.

Even today, as bad as he was, he had a few instances where he read the game, intercepted the pass and drove 50 yards up the pitch with the ball.

It's all there for me. A team will buy him in the summer and he'll realise his potential with them, just hope it's us that takes that chance.

Yeah that was an absolutely shambolic situation for him.

I'm not convinced by him, although like @TheRam (https://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=1602) I think there's a decent player in there somewhere.  Incredibly harsh to write him off on the back of today though, he wasn't good but in the context of that team selection and the overall team performance it's not that surprising.

Looked like his knee got a sideways bend, similar to Bolasie but not as bad, to me. Like caught between the ground/his momentum/the keeper.

Couple of really encouraging passes, and I can absolutely understand and back his signing. People who say he’s a joke / worst cb in the league are just going off his media reputation and the bad period he’s had.

Some absolutely shocking errors though, like mori but even worse judgement.
