Title: Wasted money or wasted talent?.
Post by: gizzblue on February 20, 2018, 06:50:03 PM
So we all know how the season has gone, good money after bad but is it wasted ....or are we wasting the talent by keeping it on the bench .

Id love to see these lads given time our season is over and we're safe really ...I can't have it that we've just wasted all this money ,when we've never fucking had any before .

Most are on long term contracts so most of our summer signings have enough time to turn things around. However, it looks like we've  been out-negotiated when it's come to the fees we've paid.

They simply have to play between now and the end of the season to see if we need to get rid or if they have a future

One of the big criticisms on here has been too much change. The argument would seem to be that Sam has been here long enough to have done that and failed?

Both.

It's what happens when you buy good-but-expensive players without thinking about how they fit on the pitch together.

We don't know what exactly goes on in training, but you pick the players who deserve to be picked.

If there's a winning team or someone has done particularly well in training then they go in. Money isn't an issue for us now apparently, so you can't start picking players based on their price tags. Not least, because that would mean starting Schneiderlin over Davies, for example, which I don't think is a scenario any of us would want.

I think our biggest issue was where we were coming from and the expectations on the players, we were hoping/reliant on all of these players coming in and transforming us into to p4/6 contenders which wasnt that realistic. I was watching the City vs Wigan game last night and wondering what would happen if we had Bernardo Silva and they had Klasseen, as I think both have been pretty uninspiring signings to date. However, City have an abundance of talent and can supplement the inclusion of Silva in their team and not really notice if he isnt up to par, whereas we dont have that luxury with Klasseen so he just gets left out on a limb.

Absolutely both. Overpaid, didn't do a good job in terms of building a team, didn't give some of them a decent chance

Bit of everything. Biggest issue is we haven't defined the roles of owner, manager DOF etc etc seems to have been a bit of a free for all and it's a fuck up.

We've got people in power who were too weak and koeman who seemingly didn't give a fuck for the actual worth of the players he wanted

Both. Sigurdsson at 45m and Keane at 30m still feels very steep.

They do. You can't really make an argument that this was 75m well spent.

Think Sig has actually worked out and will only improve ..so in today's market he was a little expensive but worth it .....but yes totally agree on the Keane figure 30m was very steep ...and don't ever see the fee warranted .
But we probably won't lose money on him either because he is young will improve and their are lots of clubs who will blow there wad on him .

It's all this! ^^^

Good players, but no one at Everton knew how to build a squad. 11 players that all play in 11 different positions that all play a certain style. People who make good money and are basically in charge of the team on the field had no fucking clue how to do this...

Sigurdsson is starting to look an okay buy. Partly because his form has improved and partly because the market has increased again since we signed him

Keane at 30m looks a horrible signing and I'm surprised at anyone arguing against that. He's been rubbish. 30m in the last year of his contract too. Crazy times

Sigurdsson is looking better of late but not 45m worth and Keane is woeful at best, we have spent totally shite really of late when you think how good and cheap the likes of arteta and Cahill were even by the prices back then

That is the most stupid of arguments ,the price has nothing to do with a players value to the team ,we don't pay it .On your theme then everyone should cost the same as Seamus or they are not worth it .I am not defending Keane but there is a player in there -no matter the cost and Siggy has settled a bit and will be a good signing -no matter the cost

If Keane sticks around he will be the best defender at our club for years and it's captain.
He'll be an England captain wherever he goes.

The lad is one of th emost natural defenders in the English game.
He has, however, been given a shitshow of a surrounding.
Having to keep an eye on Kenny, Martina and Holgate as a 'senior' at a time when he still needs shepherding himself.
Sitting beind a porous midfield that has taken a long time to even look like it gives a shit.
Nobody in world football is sitting at centre half for Everton and looking competent this season.

I agree re: Keane. He has suffered from quite a bad injury and a constantly rotating backline.

He has talked about his loss of confidence, but he will come good. The optimist in me wishes the same for Klaassen.

If we had a fully fit squad, we could go with:

Pickford

Coleman
Jagielka/Holgate
Keane
Baines

Gueye
Klaassen/Davies
Rooney/Sigurdsson

Walcott
Tosun
Niasse/Bolasie

There is plenty enough talent there to get us through this season, then we really need to stop arsing about and sign another Left Back, another 2 CBs allowing Williams to leave and maybe look at bringing in a proper box to box midfielder to put into the mix.

We are not going to go down now, so it is time to stop this 'avoid relegation' bullshit. Now is the time to get the best team we can out and keep them out as long as possible. Chopping and changing week in, week out is not going to help.

Could still prove to be a good signing though.
