Title: Watford v Everton
Post by: Gash on February 20, 2018, 07:38:19 PM
Seeing as we're back round to discussing who did or didn't ask/get approached by another club to go on loan and other riveting conversations like how long Allardyce will be here, let's have a matchday thread.  :)

This is the type of game to judge the manager on.

We should be winning this really, although a point shouldn't be cause for meltdown.

If we get a win here then the animosity towards the manager will subside for a bit.

Agree, but your last point is about as likely as us squeaking in to the top 4 by the end of the season.

Only West Brom and Southampton have a worse home record than them and only Huddersfield,  West Brom and Stoke have a worse away record than us.

Draw it is then.

As long as Allardyce...

(1) sticks with a back four
(2) doesn't use distance covered and ball retention stats to convince himself that Gana/Schneiderlin is a good idea (again)

...we should be in good shape.
Title: Re: Watford v Everton

Pickford
Coleman Keane Funes-Mori Martina
Davies Gana Rooney
Walcott Niasse Sigurdsson

Based on Coleman and Bolasie, heís not concerned about easing long term injured players back in as as a left footer, I think RFM will return.

Disagree, think itíll be important to keep the ball a bit and he canít do that consistently.

I feel quietly confident about this one, although Iím not sure why. Theyíre quick and strong and think they can cause us problems. Doucoure is a beast and can dominate our midfield is we let him. Oh, and Gerry will absolutely have a stormer.

That said, I think we can get at their defence and think weíll win 2-1 or 3-2.

Christ. If memory serves me, Mori is a massive steaming pile of poo. But the state of our defence with Martina and Kenny (I know he's a good kid n all but..) and Williams gifting 1 goal a game, you know Mori won't even come close to being the weak link.

Who would've fucking thunk it.

In my dream before i woke up I was in a Subway talking to a manager about how to make a perfect sandwich when the strip mall(I must have been in America?) it was in was attacked by terrorists who fired an RPG at the building.  We helped get customers to safety before sneaking out the back where my team of fellow superhero types were just arriving in our Thundertank rip off.  I'd just climbed inside through the roof and was about to put my cool as fuck suit on when i woke up.

Think mine has a more realistic chance of happening this Saturday than an Allardyce team scoring 6 in one game away from home.

Yeah, I'm not sold on Bolasie, even before his injury. He doesn't seem to have a final product. To think we were desperate for him to come back from injury too.

I like the guy, but he wouldn't be in my first 11.

I like the guy, but he wouldn't be in my first 11.

He was better than I thought he'd be in fairness when he first came in. He did create some decent chances and he seemed a bright spark in an otherwise non functioning team at the time. However, I think he was one of the issues as to why we weren't functioning too well at the time. When he left the starting XI and Davies came in we were more balanced, more consistent with our approach in the final third and therefore created and scored more on a regular basis.

It's hard to judge him too harshly at the moment, but even if he got back to where he was when he was at least creating chances, I'm still doubtful that he's the solution we need as he creates other problems that for me negate most of the good stuff.

Personally I'd sell him in the summer. The Koeman/Walsh era purge is just getting started.

we got lots of players, we need to sort out the ones that will be here next season.. i dont want us to become a club with a huge turn around of players.. i dont want these new players sold either,, until they have been given a far whip.. and i dont want new signings in, until this is sorted.. as im sure it would happen again and again....
which would turn players of us.. and make those who are here, feel even worse.

your basing your nightmare comment off, those players playing when we had no form., no game tactics, no strikers.

least we are more  positive now.. so lets give it a go.

That's a heavy defence when you look at it.

I don't see how Williams is getting in ahead of jags or Holgate.
Jagielka has been carrying a knock.

Team for today *dreams*

               Pickford
          Holgate Williams
Coleman                Baines
        Gueye    Davies
               Klaassen

Walcott      Tosun     Siggy

*edit.. if Sam's going to stick to a consistent team the next few games, i'd like Vlasic, to play in Davies's position,.. We all know What Dacies offers.. we havent seen enough of Vlasic to see what he can do for us.. I  love Davies.. but we need to sort out our team for next season.

Bro, dreaming of Williams being on the teamsheet is like dreaming of being puched repeatedly in the face

Haven’t got an answer for doucoure in the middle, and suspect the fullbacks will have a fucking mare with Gerry, but to be fair that could go either way very easily.

Doucoure will be key, stop him stop them.

thats like a barrage of punches!

really tho. only chose Williams cos.. Jags is old. Mangala wont be here next year.. Williams is meh.,. Keane looks like he needs his summer holidays then  come back refreshed.. the only players id play are Mori J(injured?? un fit?) and Martina...

Bit of an awkward 1 for the allardyce is the devil majority is this game. Obviously you don't want us to lose but we go 7th tonight with a wok and the point of view that he's useless stops being a bit daft and starts to become ridiculous. We'd have to go back to everyone claiming they are giving him a chance with the veiled threats about when results stop going our way again. A draw might be best

Deulofeu is freed up to get one on one with the full back all game

Keown and Hargreaves both saying that Sigurdsson should be No.10 because he is largely nullified out wide, and he is also quite negligent in tracking back.

Personally, I would rather him in Rooneyís position when Wayne is in this absent minded mood, and keep Davies advanced (or Vlasic or Klaassen if they were in the squad) with Lookman (if he was still at the club) or Bolasie on the left.

Our away form is just ridiculous.

Watford werenít very good either, it was pretty even in terms of both teams being kinda ineffective. Their subs at least got them a chance that they took, our subs offered very little. Although in fairness the starting XI didnít do much either.

I donít think Bolasie should be playing again this season mind you, just dreadful right now. Give Vlasic a go.

Canít say Tosun did himself any favours either, thought he was poor and we lost the work rate of Niasse too.

What's changed for me this season though is I'm sat here, not surprised at the score / performance, not angry, not disappointed, not blaming luck, the ref, the lino, in fact none of the things that make you a football fan are happening for me just now.

Yep. Thought Tosun didnít do himself any favours really. We needed Niasseís energy on for the last half hour not his stroll around the pitch.

I really canít bare to watch us at the minute itís just utter shite, totally demoralising, I honestly feel worse about us now than in the mid 90s and thatís saying something

As a businessmen you have to question yourself and say how the fuck do you manage to spunk £200 plus million on players yet end up with Allardyce as manger.

Is that really all Moshiri could find in that predicament?? Clearly he is an absolute plank from a footballing point of view if hiring Allardyce was soley down to him.

It's ok, it's all the players faults.

Not sure on the 'Will Keane' comment, whether that's a BBC typo or he genuinely called him that.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce speaking to MOTD:

On the goal: Itís only our fault. It couldíve been avoided quite easily. There was hesitation between Wayne Rooney and Cuco Martina in the build up to the goal, and if you give Troy Deeney that much room in the box, he generally he scores.

On the result: It looked like a well-deserved draw, so bitterly disappointing result. In the final third we didnít cause them any problems.

When you get chances like Will Keaneís from three yards out and you donít score you know itís not your day.

On their performance: The players have to take more responsibility and say to themselves ĎIf we canít win, donít lose the gameí. And it wasnít great play from Watford for the goal, it was our poor defending. We let Watford get at us and they full capitalised.

But we've been gash in most of the games and it will only continue next season.

He's got to be let go at 4:50pm 13th May 2018 (barring loads of injury time), do a Chelsea with Ancelotti

He'd decided about the 75th minute we couldn't win, that's why he was looking to make the defensive changes. Any manager with a bit of bollocks would have gone after them, we weren't great but they were shite as well and maybe with a bit of ambition we could have won.

Which isnít a decision I agree with, coz Bolasie is shite, but it shows attacking intent.

Was only a few weeks ago, canít remember the game, but Sam made a seemingly defensive sub, everyone went mental, and we scored 60 seconds later with the sub being instrumental.

Sometimes just chucking on more and more forward players a la Martinez isnít actually the best way to win a game.

I think his comments after the game where he says "if you can't win the game, make sure you don't lose it" and the fact he then changed his mind about the sub after they scored means he was definitely looking to defend the point.

Rooney has been given too many minutes, and is predictably wearing down as the season drags on because he can only run like he does for so long now.  But we are being run like a carnival side show, so it's no surprise this goes unnoticed and unchecked.

Worked it out, was the 1-1 against WBA, he replaced Tosun with Niasse and Niasse scored after a minute (in a move made by another sub, Rooney)

Wasn't defensive per se, but fans were upset because they wanted him to go two up top, rather than replace like for like.
