Title: Stoke v Everton
Post by: Gash on March 14, 2018, 04:05:24 PM
One of three exciting sounding 3pm kick offs, along with Bournemouth v West Brom, and Huddersfield v Palace. No wonder the Premier League can sell the rights for billions.

This is going to an awful game to watch, I despise Stoke and hope they go down, but they will probably beat us quite comfortably here.

i think Crouch needs one more goal to overtake Jon Walters as their leading premier goal scorer, so he is bound to get that against us.

Keep same side as Brighton, but have Vlasic in for Sigurdsson (unlikely, though, seeing as he hasn’t even been making the bench) and I reckon we would win 3-1

                           Pickford
         Coleman Jagielka Keane Baines
                       Davies Rooney
                Walcott Vlasic Bolasie
                            Tosun

Robles, Holgate, Funes Mori, Gana, Klaassen, Calvert-Lewin, Niasse

This might be the live game on NBC based on the competition of the other games at the same time. Not sure if that's a good thing on not.

The most uninspiring fixture of the season.

Yes, that is what I think he might do (or as @Cereal Killer (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=4774) suggests, he will go less expansive/expressive in the centre of the park)

I have a feeling Klaassen would be overrun at Stoke, with his lack of pace, and lack of physicality, whereas Vlasic can more than hold his own in those departments; however, I’m pretty certain that Allardyce doesn’t really rate him at all.

Clearly in the minority here but I haven't seen much from when he's played to suggest Vlasic could be starting Premier League games at no10 for us.

Can't recall any sort of impressive passing range or shooting from distance.

He is tidy on the ball and strong for his size but I don't really get the uproar around him not playing so much.

Have you seen much to suggest that Klaassen has a good passing range, or a good shot from distance?

He doesn’t even look tidy on the ball, and he certainly doesn’t seem strong for his size.

Vlasic looks good at receiving the ball, and is good at protecting it, and he scored two and had two assists in the Europa League, which again is more than Klaassen managed.

Of course, we could move Rooney further forward, but I don’t think it was any coincidence last week that with him deep instead of Gana we dominated possession for once, and created more goalscoring opportunities than usual.

Not really but I'm not suggesting Klaassen plays there either.

I think we'd be best going with a midfield 3 of Gana, Rooney and Davies.

Davies the furthest forward of the three but Rooney can also push up too.
Title: Re: Stoke v Everton

Of the two ,I think Vlasic is the more likely to actually 'do something ' ,make a run ,beat a man ,shoot at goal etc. Vlasic is quite physical while Klaassen has skill but looks as weak as piss.

I think Rooney staying deepest last week was precisely why we had more possession and created more chances than usual.

Another player comfortable on the ball (like Sigurdsson) is what we need to continue the way we played against Brighton.

The fact we had three ‘forward passers’ as our midfield three last week was key.

I remember Klaassan's attempt at goal in the Lyon game when he was virtually one on one. It was like watching a finish from the U-8's team. Meanwhile Vlasic has had two on one's for us and scored them both.

Not that this is any guarantee he'd fare better in this position but it's an indicator.

Quite right but he's not showed anything like that for us. Either/both of them deserve a go in the run in, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by seeing what they can do. It would achieve nothing by putting Rooney in that position again.

I would think the team will be:

            Pickford

Coleman jags Keane baines

             Gueye

       Davies   Rooney

Walcott   Tosun   Bolasie

Vlasic hasn’t been involved for months and klaassen only got a game off the bench because of injuries to gueye and Schneiderlin so I don’t see him bringing either in from nowhere to start today.

Not expecting much here but it would be nice if Tosun continued his scoring run for his confidence.

In some ways, I really wanna see West ham go down and this will go someway towards seeing that happen if Stoke win today.

Obviously I never want to see us lose a game but it would be a small consolation prize if it aided West hams relegation.

I guess it also goes to show how less arsed I could be about todays game.

There’s nothing particularly wrong with that side though, I’d probably pick the same thing myself.

However at some point I’d still like to see some who haven’t managed to get minutes get some prem mins under belts as we look towards next year. Frankly there’s a few fighting (or not rather, whatever the case may be) for their future at the club.

E.g there really is no reason why we should ever see Ashley Williams again. It’s patently obvious that he shouldn’t be part of the future of the club simply because of his age and the fact he isn’t good enough.

The side is fine and balanced.

But we need and want to see what Klaassen and Vlasic can do, as well as Holgate and Baningime for that matter.

Two balls behind the back line he should have been favourite for and the defenders easily beat him to it each time.

If he was that sort of striker, he’s more of a delayed Giroud like signing. You’d not expect Giroud to be making runs in behind either. That should be what Walcott and Bolasie contribute. Or Niasse as a sub.

Burnley and England goalkeeper on 5 live sports extra

I didn't think it was that bad. I certainly thought it was a foul. In fairness the referee is a lot closer. My initial reaction was that it was not a red card.

After seeing the replay, both legs leave the floor, so you can understand if the ref deems him to be out of control.

Final comment - I think Adam followed through after the initial challenge to make sure he left one on Rooney.

Too visual considering the amount of crap Adam probably eats to maintain that figure.

More wise words from the Guardian....

'“When there’s an awful challenge and the Redknapp brigade rush to use the “not that sort of player” defense, I wonder if there’s someone who everyone agrees *is* that sort of player. Is Charlie Adam one? Every time I see him pick up a booking it’s not a Scholesian “he tries his best but he’s never been able to tackle”, it’s nasty and deliberate and violent and reckless.”

There is no doubting that his tackle today was utterly atrocious, that is for sure.'

Bit if a stretch.

Haha xx charming as usual. People are allowed not to rate players you like. You must be a whizz at dinner parties with that charm

Bit harsh from me, edited like a shithouse but you got the quote in.

Seriously though, have a bit of middle ground in your assessments of players.

There is nothing wrong with rating the players but you are a true bellend and obviously a redshite windup specialist .

I’m still expecting to lose at home to City, and Liverpool, and wouldn’t be surprised to lose at Swansea, and Huddersfield.

We should win at home to Newcastle and Southampton, but who knows, and then last game of the season at West Ham could go either way.

Call me a typical Evertonian, but I’m not counting our chickens yet.

I don’t think we need have concern about relegation anymore if that’s what you’re saying. I think 38-39 points was likely going to be enough and we’re there now. I didn’t think it’s come this early, I thought it’d be a longer grind but I’m glad we’ve got these points the last two games.

We should try and at least keep grinding away I suppose in the hope that Burnley/Leicester mess up. It would be nuts to finish 7th on the back of this season though.

You were very blunt. I accept I do tend to go over the top. I really don’t see it with DCL though. Hope I’m wrong.
No point falling out when we win plenty of losses for us all to be arguing over

I think all the players in fairness did try today. We’re clearly still lacking confidence away from home.

Also, the conditions did ease up but it’s reasonable to think that the snow on the ground probably made the ball slicker which made DCL and Walcott take longer to get it under control when they were both pretty clean through.

Cenk Tosun looks like a quality international class striker. Very useful in the box and on the ball for positioning. Looks like a good buy to me. If Walsh identified him? Then he's a succesful capture and Walsh deserves some credit. Early days for Cenk.. but he looks very useful. :)

Imagine where we might be had he played from January. Only he wasn’t ready. Or was he? Who knows. That fat chancer will milk it anyway and take the credit either way.

People think 40pts equals safety for some reason... WHU went down with 42 a few years back.

That was an outlier. 36.6 is the average to be safe I believe.

If hope we’d not stop on 40 though given the number of games left.

We’re not going down, never were. That negative waster has lowered everyone’s expectations. We should be finishing 7th and that was always the case at every stage of this season, don’t let all the noise convince you any different.

Burnley’s run in is pretty easy. Compared to us with Man City and Liverpool. 7th is pretty unrealistic at the moment.

The gaps 3 points they’ve won once since mid December they’re hardly bang in form regardless. And Leicester are no great shakes either.

It’s easily within our grasp, failing to get 7th will be because we slip up not how they both perform.

3pts, but they have a game in hand vs West Brom so may as well be 6pts.

Reality is nobody is all that consistent, including us so it’s probably not going to change all that much. It says a lot that they’ve barely won a game in months and they’re still 7th.

We shall see, not beyond reason, just not very likely unless we decide to turn up against Liverpool for once.

Sam said earlier on, he didnt rate Cenk, and that if he could he would have bought someone else.
but now he's saying, Cenk is doing what we bought him for...
so he takes the credit when things are doing good, but distances himself when they're going shit.

what a knob.

yesterdays match was crazy, never been to a match where i couldnt see the ball for over half the game.. pure crazyness..
Cenk was  excellent. thought the sending off was a crazy decision until i saw the highlights..

biggest disappointment was DCL, a few times he was clean through (excellent balls from Cenk) and he just fucked up, once he left the ball behind, another time he mis controlled.. 1 time he was through.. Cenk was clear in the box on a hattick and DCL shot straight at the keeper..

I like DCL, he just needs to pay more attention to whats happening on the pitch, where other players are and making the right decision, which i guess will come with experience.

DCL was heavily involved with both goals I think, but I agree, he makes a lot of simple errors. I hope he can overcome them, but I really don't see much in him that suggests he'll ever be anything more than an average striker who might hit 10 a season at best.

But I am willing to give the players a bit of a pass after dealing with those conditions yesterday. Bugger playing out in that, especially with shorts and a t-shirt on. I wouldn't have seen a thing myself as my glasses would have kept getting covered in snow.
