...................got my ticket yesterday ,what a faff with the new look website ,it said I couldn't have my usual spot because it left an orphan seat  . Went to auto select and it gave me a seat right at the back . Logged off and tried again - success. Looking forward to getting back to Goodison.

..................Not sure if all the matchday carparks will open for this . Usually park in the old school off Westminster Road which is between Kirkdale Station and Goodison. Depends which way you come in but you should find parking around Stanley Park .

Just so you know if any of you coming to this park on the wasteland opposite the Carisbrooke pub by the bingo, you need to find an alternative place to park they have blocked all that area and doing work on that site.

Also the cross junction by the Royal Oak has got a major gas main issue and the roads are blocked right the way down Walton road as far as Thomas frost wetherspoons, Westminster Rd is inaccessible

Might be worth speaking to the box office and seeing if you can get tickets for the street end in the church corner and request access through the disabled gate. There's no steps that way, so you will be able to get a pram in quite easily.

There's apartments on scotty road called picturehouse that are supposed to be nice. Get any bus from there up to goodison.

Other than that maybe a Travelodge in Fazakerley or Aintree. Easy enough to get from there.

Stayed in the Hallmark hotel on Mount pleasant, around 5 or 6 weeks ago. Two nights. Large double bed & breakfast. £152 all in. Nice and clean and no hassles. :)
Oh! And by the way. Access to travel from there, is as good as it gets. Central, and Lime Street Station (if it's open) are literally 4 or 5 minutes walk.

You can get a drink before the game and then they start serving again 15 mins before half time and stop serving as soon as the second half kicks off. That's generally the rules in the ground for a normal game anyway.

No. He'll be training them hard all week, and some of the players who've hardly worked with him (Gana, Gylfi) will improve markedly, and we'll put in a good display here.

Same with other clubs that had players involved in the WC semis/final. No worse for us, and we only had one player. Got to give people a break, they're not machines. GK should be the least affected position from coming back later than other players.

Okay, but Sigurdsson has to show for the ball more and he has to try to do something positive with it more too.

If he's our playmaker, he can't be so passive/safe in open play.

Yes. Just a win it and give it remit for Gana. Dowell and Sig would be my choice. Leggy technicians spraying it then running onto the end of it.

Yes if Schneiderlin is going to remain anonymous for long spells then Iíd give up on the deeper midfielder starting attacks and just let Gueye shuffle around that area.

Might also be more useful for covering in behind the full backs.

Unless we get somebody in this week Iíd like to see how Sigs play as one of the deeper two. Heís flexible enough to be good anywhere in the midfield and Iíd sooner see Dowell that Schneiderlin/Davies/Besic based on recent form.

Is a midfield of Sig/Gueye/Dowell workable?

I fully agree with that.  Think it will take a bit of time for the partnership to find comfort, but Siggy always shows for the ball internationally.  Silva just has to convince him the opportunity is there, and to seize it.

I worry about extrapolating from his Iceland performances because they seem to mostly play without the ball.

Need to just get him on the ball as much as possible. Minimum touches, minimum passes, minimum runs into the 6 yard box.

As daft as it sounds for a preseason game we need a result now. Cant go into the season having lost 5 on the trot only scoring 1 goal. We win this and all the other games are forgotten and we can start the season with some confidence. Another hiding and youve got to start fearing for us

Pickford

Coleman
Keane
Jagielka
Digne (could still be baines at this stage)

Schneiderlin/Davies
Gana
Sigurdsson

Walcott??
Tosun
Richarlison

anyone heard anything on Walcott? would like to see lookman, but looks like it's inevitable hes off.

Yeah, the side that got bullied by Rennes is, unfortunately, likely to be our starting 11 vs Wolves.

The Keane/Jagielka partnership terrifies me with the high-line tactic, and the Schneiderlin/Gana duo fills me with little confidence, either for starting attacks or protecting the back four.

Is this something to do with the law on 3pm KO's being shown live?

Still a bit shite given it's only a friendly.

And if you're abroad and not planning on going to any games this season don't fall for the £30 and getting a members pack, it's worth about 73p and you won't really get any other benefits for your £30.

Thing is, with only Keane and Jags as out only fit "decent" center backs, we really don't have a choice.

For the 4 mill we got for Mori, I'm thinking we'd have been better off keeping him. Or at least waiting until a replacement.

Seems about what one would reasonably expect, with the squad right now, to be the starting XI for Wolves (except bringing in Pickford, if he's up to speed). Maybe you swap, say, Davies, for one of the deeper mids, but that's probably about what we'll see.

Good to see Walcott, Lookman, and DCL back in the squad; have to think Holgate is still injured.

And while Iím not a fan of those two together if you play 3 up front and get your full backs forward they ďshouldĒ provide cover.

Also the forward play would be fairly robotic but if patterns are worked on (getting it forward quickly) then we should still pose a threat.

Not much control mind so those two must play well defensively.

We need pace in one of our centre backs.

This is the big item. I don't think Mina is the answer to that particular problem, as my understanding is that he's not blessed with pace. Holgate coming back in will help there.

I'd almost prefer Lascelles over Mina right now for pace. We need another CB that can make up ground and isn't uncomfortable on the ball.

Don't undersell how bad this midfield is.

Schneiderlin is a decent but safe passer who doesn't show for the ball enough and no longer offers anything defensively.

Sigurdsson runs a lot and is dangerous on the off chance that the ball falls to him in a great position but he is seriously uninvolved. Tosun does more in the build-up phase than he does.

Gana is good at pressuring the ball wherever he is but do we really want him receiving the ball in attacking situations?

Schneiderlin definitely needs to be dropped, Gana needs to sit deeper, and I'd seriously consider Sigurdsson's role in the team.

We should see what Sig can do creatively with Richarlison, Walcott, and Tosun in the team with him. Never really had similar options in front of him on a consistent basis. That through ball for Walcott being an example of what I hope will start occurring on a more frequent basis.

Better in attack today. If that young keeper is any good? It might be a good idea to make him Pickfords deputy. Stek has been pretty poor up to now. Much quicker and sharper today.

Defensively, worrying, but attacking wise Iím really pleased. Some very good link up play especially down the left and we look like a team again. Keane got some confidence from that goal and Idrissa has dominated last 20 mins of that half

I know it was disallowed, but does Stekelenburg ever save anything? I can't recall him getting even close to one in pre-season.

yeah, few -- if any -- goals against this preseason have involved glaring errors by Stekelenburg (though that one would have), but he has made at most one or two, if any, great saves -- and you need that on occasion from a keeper.

i quite enjoyed that first half.. we looked half solid..

good attacking play, Cenk is class, cant believe the flappers who dont rate him.. good play by our front 3, they combine well with Siggy behind them.really liking Siggy infront of the 2 holding mids.. Schneiderlins been decent too!

would like to see Digne and Lookman in the second half.. maybe Dowell in Siggys role.

Cenk average at almost everything - but the boy is a fucking gunman.

Great finish, great run, great ball from Theo as well.

No control or progression from midfield, Gylfi on the edge of the box like a 4th attacker rather than coming to get the ball in the final third. Will be an issue this year. Leaves Morgan and Gana to the build up which is less than great.

Baines and richarlison good understanding. Heís superb in the air this lad isnít he. Keeps the ball very well and beats his man one on one no probs.

Everton 2-2 Valencia
Bad defending led to both of the Valencia goals
Baines exposed on the back post leaving Rodrigo to control and poke home and was left for dead for their second too.
great work from Walcott dancing through 5 players to lay it off to Tosun who fired home with a decent finish and Keane with a decent finiish

Gana MOTM for us. After he went off everything went to pot

Because he was replaced by a dud, Davies just isnít going to make it, letís forget all this local lad loyalty and realise heís not going to make it in this league, he can neither pass nor dribble, on the couple of occasions that he showed for the ball he only ever passed back and more often than not to an opponent.

Looked far better going forward 1st half, Walcott made a difference, as for defending I need not say anything other than we have our work cut out if we donít sign at least one CB
Still no idea where to play Siggy or what our best midfield is, hope we sign a passing, dribbling quick thinking mid as our options in that dept are zero

If youíre a pressing CM youíre never the deepest player.

Examples are early 2000íS Milan where Pirlo would be the furthest back with Gattuso pressing ahead; and Chelsea two years ago with Matic deeper and Kanye ahead.

He needs to be comfortable further forward, even if itís just 5 yard lay offs to others.

I think we'll see one defender come in and have to be patient. We'll have a decent season with mixed results but better football i reckon while Silva gets a tune out of some of these players. I'm ok with that and i think Sigurdsson will grow into this team with games much like he started to last season prior to injury

Still hopeful as well, but he will need more time to grow into Marco's style.  And I think he'd do better paired with another ACM that he could play off of.  Gana, to me, has all the traits needed to be a lone press DCM.

Im nearly 50 and have had a season ticket almost half my life, and Ive seen some poor defences and some very shocking seasons. But Ive rarely seen such a nervous cb pairing and lack of defensive team ďcohesionĒ which looks like were going to concede from almost every attack. Pickford will make a difference, but even adding a new better CB player may not be enough. We really need 2 tidy, steady additions to come straight into the team.

That's all well and good if you have Pirlo or a back three with defenders like Luiz and Azpilicueta who take the passing burden off of the midfield.

We don't.

The only possibility Gana opens up for us when he plays further forward is that a chance we worked really hard to create will fall to his feet (not great, he's not a good finisher). His work higher up the pitch rarely ever results in the types of counterattacking opportunities we need him to create for him to have any value in that role.

He can use all of his skills -- pressuring and winning the ball, playing simple passes, dribbling away from trouble -- to great effect further back, cleaning up after our more attack-minded midfielders. Which is where his best performances here have been -- sitting alongside Barry when he first signed and mopping up for Davies and Rooney last season.

We all know about these problems, but there's only so many things that can be solved, and fires that can be put out, in one condensed transfer window.

Yeezy is better with the ball than Gueye but heís still more a shuffle the play forward player with more basic passes or simply carrying it 30 yards up the pitch.

Heís what Gueye needs to copy and let the deeper position take care of itself.

I don't think the idea was that either of them should be the main man. There would still be seasoned internationals alongside them in Gueye and Sigurdsson.

It's about balance and making the most of what we have. Have we ever looked good with Gueye and Schneiderlin together? No. Does anyone think Schneiderlin offers more than Gueye defensively? Not really. There's a decent argument though that both Davies and Dowell would offer more in attack than Gueye.

You could, for example, play Dowell mainly in the home games as he's probably got a bit more guile to create chances and his shooting from outside the box could be useful against set defences.

As a less attacking and better defensive player, Davies might be a better option away.

Neither needs to carry the weight of the team on their shoulders and nor should they. We have ample evidence now though that by shoehorning Gueye and Schneiderlin both into the team that we cede control of the match which leads to the defence being left vulnerable and exposed.

With regards to the Davies/Schneiderlin/Gueye debate, I would have no hesitation in binning off Schneiderlin. I think Basic offers more defensively, 100 times more workrate, 10 times faster, just as comfortable on the ball and I don't think there's that much to choose between them when it comes to passing either.

On top of that, we still have young Baningime don't we? He's always impressed me when he's come on and I'd like to see him develop a bit more this season too.

Davies, Gueye, Baningime, Besic? We just don't need Schneiderlin and his half-arsed performances.

They were doing Pepperoni pizzas in the lower Gwladys today like. All the tea bars have been facelifted and they were handing out free samples of the new burgers and wraps that they are doing now too and they were very nice indeed. Noticed that they are also doing cheese topped hot dogs too!

Didnít see any of this in the upper!

corrs light has been added to the bar, think thatís new like.
