Title: Everton v Fulham - Saturday 3pm KO
Post by: D15TIN on September 25, 2018, 09:00:20 PM
So what already feels like a huge game even at this stage of the season, 3 points here an absolute must. I think we need to start to see a little bit of continuity in the XI, Coleman & Mina could be fit? Not sure if Mina will be thrown straight in or not, but think he'll be in the 18

-------------Pickford

Coleman* Mina* Zouma Digne

--------------Gana
--------Davies - Sigurdsson

Walcott---Richarlison---Bernard

Subs:
Stek Keane* Baines Schneiderlin Lookman Dowell Tosun

2-1 Walcott & Richarlison

Defo gonna be harder than previous Fulham sides thatve come to goodison, these have a go. Mitrovic, Schurrle, Sessengnon & Seri can cause us problems

Must win though, I dread to think the mood of the ground/post match comments after dropping points in this.

Fulham are terrible. I watched them against Watford at home and they just don't have anything really going for them.

With Richarlison back, we should comfortably beat this lot.

Have to try Richarlison up top and get Bernard into the team. It might not work, it might nullify Richarlisonís threat, but it looks like the best options at the moment.

Id imagine Bernard would create enough problems from that left hand side anyway, can always interchange between the front 3

After the West Ham game, I'd hope any complacency has been removed from any fixture in the near future. The team needs to put in a performance, get 3 pts and try to build from there.

With Southampton at home in the cup Tuesday too, it's an opportunity to get a couple of wins on the board and some confidence with players coming back from injury.

They have players who can score.

Worried about this.

I reckon we should do what we tried against arsenal.

Hold the middle of the pitch well press them high and force them wide. Walcott and Richarlison will have to put a shift in but thatís OKAY, then try and transition quickly and get people in behind with a bit of pace.

This is a must win for us today, I canít see us keeping a clean sheet and I imagine Mitrovic will bag, so we need to finish whatever we get a sniff of up top.

Same team against arsenal. Tosun up top if we must but would rather Dom.

However - silvaís presser he did hint at richarlison up top like.

I guess that game was so good I forgot all about it. I thought for a second I must have missed the game but itís come back to me now. We barely created a shot on goal. I guess the pervasive apathy of last season has carried into this one too for me.

We need to get the new players up to speed and get a working balance. Unlike last season there are least their have been positive signs I feel, we need some luck though at this point and to take chances if we get them.

No game is going to be easy until we can get the defence sorted as weíll always give teams a way to score.

Well this has been rather by the numbers.

Serri running the show and they are passing us off the park. Very much what I was worried about after West Ham, but thought after arsenal we’d found a bit of a recipe to get on the ball but it doesn’t look it.

We have to do more. Several players have barely touched the ball and let the game pass them by.

Bernard must come on max 60 minutes, if not at half time and take DCL off, put Richarlison up top. Even Tosun. Shake them up in there because quality wise, it's just not good enough.

From a neutral standpoint, I don't think anyone could deny this ref has let Fulham play dirty and foul us quite aggressively, especially Richarlison. The studs up into the leg, and then the elbow as well into the face (can't remember if that was also on him) was barely punished.

It does feel like we need to grind one out here.

They cut through us with that move, but they've created nothing else and Mitrovic has been quiet, so we have defended relatively well.

We're having moments but not having sustained periods of pressure, because we can't keep the ball high up the pitch, under pressure, which is due to the obvious passing deficiencies in midfield, and DCL's inability to hold the ball up.

Some good interchange in the middle lead to us playing in Kenny. Kenny got to the byline before it went out and cut it back across the box. A Fulham player got a touch on the cross, and touched it out of the box. But it fell nicely to Sig, who then curled it beautifully far post.

Before this game would have said either by dropping the striker and okay Richarlison there or dropping Sig. Hard to do either of those after both Tosun and Sig scored today.

Would Sig playing the Davis role and Bernard behind the top three work?

Every now and again Micheal Keane looks like a very, very good player.

Fair fucking play to Sigurdsson as well by the way. Heís an absolutely world class striker of the ball at those distances. Thought both of those were going in before he hit them to be honest with you.

If Bernard is half the player for us pienaar was he's going to be great

Gotta find a way to integrate him into the starting XI.

Anyway, good win, Silva got the players up and going out of the HT dressing room. Not sure how we kept a clean sheet, wont see many this season so better enjoy it!

Richy: not his best skills today, but as ever, always direct. 7
Tosun: yes, but to be fair to DCL it was a completely different game when Tosun came on, goal was wide open for him. 7

Very pleased for Cenk, thought he threw his arm out of socket when he celibrated.

So, do we think Sigurdsson has to be our #10 now after his brace today?

Or could he do a job as #8 alongside maybe Bernard in the #10?

Or would you prefer Bernard to stay as a super sub, or come into the starting eleven on the left-wing, with Richarlison moving inside to CF?

Or do you think Tosun will turn it around now with his goal?

Was DCL a bit poo again, continuing to exhibit the touch of a rapist?

And is Digne our undisputed LB now?

And is Kenny making a strong claim as our starting RB, or does Coleman come straight back in once fully fit?

And has Keane really turned a corner?

Tosun: Bench - super sub

Keane's ability to switch play is way underrated and he's defending much better this season.

Whatever defensive pairing we settle on, I think he should be in it. Having him in defense is a clever way to add the one thing Schneiderlin does well to the team without clogging up the midfield with the actual Schneiderlin.

Yeah, we've been bad so any half-decent routine can break us.

Saying that, even if we get really good at defending set plays, a well-designed, well-executed routine from the attacking team is still going to win out pretty much every time.

I don't think the first half was as bad as some are making out. I think we worked hard and created a few decent chances in the first 25.

Unfortunately the longer we went without creating the more the team and the fans got nervous...then we started to try and force it and pressed in a more frantic and disjointed way...creating holes they exploited.

Second half was much better, but I didn't get the booing at half time.

Absolutely dreadful first half. Similar to the last few home games, started brightly for the first 10 minutes then ran out of ideas and heads seemd to drop a little.

Initial thoughts, defence wasn't bad overall. Pickford made one key interception and loved the way he celebrated it. Keane is improving every game and Zouma looked better. Digne did ok defensively and has a wonderful left foot for crosses. But, sorry, Kenny is way off Coleman unless Coleman has gone way backwards since his injury. Thought he really struggled first half and gave the ball away too much.

Gana played well, seemed to be everywhere although he pulled out of a tackle in the second half which led to them having a chance. Davies was a bit of a mixed bag. I thought Richarlison wasn't quite there, even before the injury scare. Walcott was in and out in the first half and carried a little more threat in the second, plus worked back to help Kenny.

DCL wasn't in the game at all. Touch was pretty dreadful and even let balls go under his foot when he tried to trap them. Be at bit harsh to read too much into it as we were so bad in the first half but he offered nothing and never looked like causing any problems. Gylfi had a very good game, created a lot of pressure on the ball high up the pitch and missing the penalty seemed to fire him up even more.

Subs contributed well, Cenk got his goal, thank god. He was where he needed to be to finish. Hopefully that will settle him and he can move on from here. Bernard is exciting, I can't wait to see him on from the start or is he best as an impact sub? I hope he's more than that.

Overall, we were just above ok but they were pretty poor. We still need to protect posession better and move the ball faster. At least this was a step forward with no steps backward.

Thought it was similar to the west ham game, we didn't play well, especially in the first half and if they took their chances it would've been different. The amount of times they had 3 or 4 against 1 is worrying and if we carry on like that were gonna get a serious hiding sooner or later.

True but Fulham didn't play as well as they can and didn't take advantage of our poor first half, which turned out well for us, no use thinking everythings fixed either, it's far from it, but cause for cautious optimism, can't blame people for that with all the false dawns we've had lately.

First half was very worrying but to my eye we blew them off the park second half.

Serri is a fantastic little player, Mitrovic didnít do anything to back my shout in the striker thread luckily enough, although he was quite muscular I think Keane and Zouma handled him.

We were poor first half, started the right way in the second, we need to be careful though they still could have scored a couple yesterday, Bernard is going to be a great little player for us, reminds me a little of pienaar but with more pace

Only 27 pages for a 3-0 win then folks? I guess everyone's happy  :)

We're a strange bunch. If we'd drawn 0-0 it'd be double that.

I know. After reading that the first half was awful I'm still surprised it wasn't more tbh

It was a must win and we delivered eventually. Iím overjoyed frankly.

First half was very worrying but to my eye we blew them off the park second half.

Serri is a fantastic little player, Mitrovic didnít do anything to back my shout in the striker thread luckily enough, although he was quite muscular I think Keane and Zouma handled him.

Gueye had another good game for me, Tom I actually canít remember how he was?

Jonjoe is doing really well too.

Thought seri was poor. The fella next to him impressed me though.

Sessegnon is struggling in the premier league isnít he. He got schooled by Kenny in every department yesterday.

Starting to see some promising partnerships form now.

Keane/Zouma
Digne/Richarlison
Davies/Gana

Best player on the pitch in the first half and we kept letting them find him, but second half gueye pocketed him to be honest and his influence just disappeared.

Sessegnon dropped Kenny for the crossbar shot I think but yeah, considering everything came so easy to him in the champs it has been a step up for him.

Yeah, shout out to Digne as well by the way, great little player and has surpassed my expectations so far.

Yeah but I think one of those relationships is going to hit a rocky patch very soon...

The result was the main thing but the worrying thing for me is a good premiership team like Fulham carved us open at ease at times and apart from poor finishing or decision making should've been at least 1 up at half time. Better teams would have put a few past us yesterday

They only had one clear cut chance. Couple of good situations they wasted with Schurrle and Vietto as well, but beyond that, we completely snuffed them out.

This isn't a pop at you personally but I think there's one thing that some people fail to understand. Teams create chances against everyone. City, Liverpool, Chelsea etc all get numerous chances made against them in every game. It's risk reward. If you play attacking football, you are going to leave yourself vulnerable at times. Every team in the league has players who can hurt you, given time and/or space, and you can't avoid that, no matter how well you play. The trick is to minimise the number and quality of them.

We didn't create much first half, but over the whole game we controlled and dominated Fulham and gave them very little to work with. Mitrovic was anonymous, having dominated other teams.

Yeah but they are. That was a game we all expected us to win and we did. Other than the second 45 minutes there's not a lot to talk about.

If we'd beaten all the "only" teams over the last twenty-five years we wouldn't have gone through so many managers and would have had a solid platform to build from.

No they only had 1 chance the whole game! Top teams don't look at negatives at all when they win, it just isn't the way to improve, everything is Pukka..

That's fair enough, but which was their only clear cut chance the 1 where they hit the bar or the 1 on 1 with pickford?
I agree teams will always create chances, you just don't see them cut open as much as us. The number of times we've had 3 or 4 against 1 in the previous 3 games is scary

Silva's building from the front, who's to say he's wrong as long as it all gets done in the end.
