And Sunderland have won the top flight league 6 times.
Newcastle have won it 4 times too.
Sheff Wednesday 4 times.
Loads of others have won it 3 times (more than Spurs :snigger:)

We slip down when all trophies are considered.

Only when Mickey Mouse cups are included ;)

BTW we were second in that list on the first day of the Premier League.

I'd kill for a Mickey Mouse cup.

Yes but until that point we shouldn’t count them...

I was born the year we won our last league.
Shall just die and lift the curse?

In my lifetime we've won an FA Cup in 1995 and a few cups and leagues in the 80s when I was a baby. Really hard for me personally to get excited about thise 9 league titles. We need to win something now.
-
We still have the record for the longest time as reigning winners . Twice we have held it .
-
Do you lot consider charity shields as trophies?
Obviously it's not considered a major trophy but you still have to qualify to play in it by either winning the league or the FA cup and then play a team over 90 mins for a prize.
For me it should be considered.
The reason I say this is because when I see these trophy tables it shows us having won 15 major honours, which is correct, 9 titles, 5 FA cups and the cup winners cup.
But we have won 9 charity shields which should see us on 24 really
Just wondered if others counted charity shields or not.

People didn’t used to, on the whole.
But it is often counted abroad (I think for the reasons you mention, ie you’ve generally won something to get there, so it is an achievement) and managers such as Houllier etc started counting it.

This is what I'm saying.
Often when a new manager wins it they class it as said managers first "major trophy" so it should be considered in my opinion.

Used to count a lot in the seventies when liverpool used to win it, but not since. In fact the first I remember of it was when Howard Kendall referred to it as, "A pre-season game and a chance to get fit."
Never really counted.

If it wasn’t for Forest or Palace in the Simod Cup things would look a whole lot better..

Palace was the Zenith Data Systems Cup, was the Simod Cup the year before i think
Southall refusing to go up the Wembley steps to collect his losers medal still makes me laugh

Yep, just over 50,000 at Wembley for the final, pretty sure we only had only about 10,000, that's how arsed we was about it
-
And the ScreenSports SuperCup, beaten over 2 legs by Liverpool in the final
About 20,000-25,000 for Anfield and Goodison!
-
What about the Liverpool floodlight challenge cup ? It was started when they were in the 2nd division to keep the derby going .If I remember right!

“4th most successful team in England? Hahahaha.....give over.”

the clue is in the title .........4th most successful in winning league titles

Villa though!

City will surpass us this season and Chelsea in the next few I imagine.
Won’t be long before nine league titles and five FA cups doesn’t seem that impressive

It doesn't now to be honest. Nobody cares except us, and most of us probably don't.
-
League titles still more impressive than league cups or whatever.
-
Villa though!
Think Villa have only 1 league and 1 FA cup post ww2.
EC as well obviously but as with everyone bar us, they’ve a handful of league cups.
-
I still have it in my head -
1986 European Cup winners: Everton FC
Final: beat Barcelona 2-0 (Lineker, Mountfield)
-
Villa though!
I know......this incs 5 league cups - great to win any trophy but fa cups/league titles are the cups with gravitas! nod

have had a similar score in my head since then too! - barca weren't that great at the time and we have done them- carrying on our impetus from 1985 and our winning mentality
-
Our name would have been on the cup that year and the final in Spain as well, but, alas NEC (No European Cup)!
1986-87 would have meant Liverpool and us in the competition with the final in Vienna, but, alas "It means nothing to me, this means nothing to me.................Oh Vienna"
The eighties re-imagined!

I defo still care about our trophy haul and reminding other fans’ clubs that we’re the 4th most successful team.
I get that it’s been a while and people are fed up hearing about history but that’s one of the main things that a club is. It’s all history. Winning the league last year or 100 years ago, they are both history and with the passage of time, they’re both viewed the same.
Lots of massive clubs have gone through long fallow periods. It’s not like we’ve spent 10 years in League 2.
I’m not really bothered whether other clubs’ fans are knowledgeable enough to know about our history and our size as a club. It doesn’t change anything and it doesn’t alter my pride in the club one iota.
That’s on them.
