United are just in a bad cycle. They have tried all sorts of approaches - keeping faith with the old guard, bringing in established superstars, putting faith in youngsters. They've all failed. It could turn be argued that they don't have a vision or ethos. That's nonsense though because having a vision doesn't guarantee anything - it's an overly romanticised retrospective analysis of all the times it went right for others. Maybe they need a director of football? That doesn't guarantee anything either. It's hard to pin it even on the glazers as they have also spent money recently and their spending has no relationship with on-field performances. So then people blame Ed Woodward because he's the only one left. Established media types laying into him in front of TV viewers isn't helpful or constructive. They had their good times, and Ferguson was one in a million. Now is their time to suffer a bit. And boo-hoo for them.
