Sad to hear of his demise ,the greatest compliment I can pay is that I truly hated him. All fans will understand .

Meant to be a complete wanker by all accounts.

Tried to swindle some disability benefits from what I hear.

Think there was something in that.

He claimed he had severe shin splints and could hardly walk when he was fine.

The "Anfield Iron" never held back in a tackle, but never fancied his chances when up against our very own "Tough Mudder" Mogsy, even switching flanks to avoid him

No "Ale House" to worry about (yet) in that big game in the sky

RIP

Horrible racist by all accounts, and unrepentant with it too

Only ever encountered him once and he had no reason to be polite, so wasn't.

Not someone I ever saw play or ever crossed my mind, but reading some of his comments about black people make my stomach turn. All recorded conversations from the late 80s where we all knew racism was wrong

Pisses me off the way when someone dies, all this shit gets whitewashed (pun intended). People saying you should have respect for the dead, and it's not the time or place.

Fuck that. I just read a Guardian obituary of Tommy Smith without even the slightest hint that the man was a racist.

Over time, this all then becomes the chronicled narrative of who he was.

If he didn't have to pay for his sins in life, fine, he got away with it. But he - and we all - should be remembered as the people that we were.

I see the kopites having a fume at Miguel Delaney on Twitter for saying he was racist. Most saying "it was years ago" or "yeah but have a bit of respect, he's only just died". You'd think it was only the good that died, someone should tell them cunts die as well.
