I'd give a few lads from the disabled team a go here.

Don't they have a game against Basle this week???

the team will be made up entirely of WAGS on Thursday night

Leon Osman's other half is particularly good at holding the ball up apparently

What‘s the point of overworking and risking Jagielka et al in the meaningless game? It‘s a perfect opportunity to rest the key players and test some youngsters.

                       Robles
Browning  Galloway  Alcaraz  Garbutt
                  Jones  Ledson
            Atsu  Dowell  Oviedo
                      Kone

We can rest a few players of course, but you still want a good balance of experienced players to help out the youngsters. Jagielka should be fine, he's one of those players who can possibly play 40 games in a row without showing any signs of genuine fatigue. He's the captain so he can lead the youngsters, plus Alcaraz has just come back from injury and given how light we are in defence, I would rather he made a full recovery but if he was 20 minutes in him then certainly give him a run out in the second half.

I believe that Martinez will want to win this game to round off our impressive run in the group stages plus Krasnodar gave us a lot of problems last time with their "in your face" style of football so to put on Ledson and Jones in central midfield could be a little overwhelming. We need to build up the confidence of the youngsters and if we can get a 2-0 victory or something like that then that would be ideal.

That's it. It's absolutely pointless playing kids in mainly the under 21 team aside from playing in front of a half sized crowd in a competitive match on the tele. Far better for someone like ledson to have an Osman next to him, browning next to a jagielka etc. They would learn far more having someone experienced next to them talking them through to the game.

Hopefully people like ledson, garbutt, browning play but putting in 7 or 8 under 21s wouldn't be the answer in my opinion. Plus getting someone like pienaar minutes is just as crucial because right now he isn't an option but he is an option we need to get back to fitness ASAP.
