He'll still be the majority shareholder, so it's still a takeover.
............yeh but no but yeh but no it doesn't feel like a takeover, I'm slightly disappointed for some reason. Sounds like a top bloke though.
Then again ,surely he isn't going to pay 200m for half the club ?
We are special ,we are Everton.

Just enough mystery to keep the blue loonies going I'd say.

Cakes and clowns all round!
There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

isn't this just so he has to run everything past the other shareholders before doing anything major?

I'm actually quite impressed the deal has been done like that to be honest, although expect there is an option for more shares in the future, once he's proved he's not changing our kit to red

49.9% gives him the biggest share but stops him being able to do whatever he wants unchallenged. If he is a maniac then the current shareholders could stop him, if he is a genius then everyone lets him get on with it. At 49.9% it gives him enough of an incentive to get involved as any value he adds directly increases the value of his shares.

Is it fair to say Bill Kenwright has done a very careful deal to protect the club?

Time will tell I guess, but I cannot see someone investing 100 million (which is what I guess he would have paid to buy around 50%) and not look to get to the business of driving the club forward.
