I think it's great for third tier countries and their fans who only qualify for tournaments once in a blue moon. There was a buzz last summer, not only at the Euros, but back home in Wales and both sides of Ireland, and possibly Hungary @Major Clanger
. Teams who always qualify may not understand that lift a country can get during tournaments.
Obviously it's a money thing, but the same countries are going to be in the semi-finals/finals, but with 32 in the knock out stages there are one or two possible upsets.
I can understand English fans reluctance as it could lead to far more Iceland debacles.
