He's been brilliant for a few weeks now.
He's shown he really wants to make it at Everton.
Koemans handling of him has been brilliant
Ross Barkley was probably the best player Roberto Martinez has ever seen, hence the constant arse licking.
To Ronald Koeman though, he's nothing, hence the harsh words. It's worked though. If he continues like this we can finally think about building the midfield round him.
With the caveat that I didn't get to watch today's game, I do think "brilliant for weeks" is a bit of a stretch. He's definitely showing real signs of improvement in parts of his game which were big weaknesses: his fitness, his pressing, his reaction to losing the ball, even his tackling and his aggression in the last couple of games, etc.
You have to give Koeman credit for this, though I don't think it's any real genius on his part that he's working on those areas, because we've all been saying he needs to for the last couple of years now.
If he can continue to master the basics, that will be a real platform for him to build the parts of his game that set him apart - his ability on the ball, his dribbling, his attacking instincts, etc. Then we *might* finally just have a "world class" player on our hands.
