Ok, so we all know we had Eric Dier and let him go etc
But who are the other players we had and let go only to rue it in years to come?
Straight away Richard Dunne comes to mind, fella coulda been an Everton legend, that was a big mistake.
Looking at the state of our defence right now, I am starting to think Shane Duffy also could prove to be a big mistake. Saw him for Ireland last night and he was a colossus.

ps - Michael Ball/Franny ETC dont count, I am sure you "get" what I mean by let go

From our 1980's super era:

Steve McMahon is an interesting one - Kendall, by his own admission, didn't rate him as highly as others and sold him in 1983

Ian Bishop did OK; Mark Ward did OK and eventually returned, and Kendall rated him;

Richard Dunne sticks out as a big selling mistake

David Johnson, back in the early 70's, also a mistake to sell him

Desperate times indeed, the amount of fume when we get linked to the oaf like Ryan Shawcross or similar and yet Shane fucking Duffy, give your head a shake
