We'll win later, scrape past Senegal in the last 16, then lose to Brazil in the quarters

Deal with it
Not sure Brazil are that good are they? Englandís defence hasnít been great though.

I'd be happy with a 0-0 and a red card for Danny Welbeck.

He needs to take one for the good of the team.

People generally banging on about to win the World Cup you need to beat all teams..... no you need to beat the teams you're drawn against

Would anyone care if we won the World Cup without playing France, Brazil, Portugal? Fuck no

Belgium will be resting plenty of players. If they finish 2nd they get to stay in the same place, and the draw is theoretically easier. They've made no secret of it.

We're resting a few, but will go for the win. As Southgate rightly says, we hardly ever win knockout games at tournaments, so it's ridiculous mapping the way to the final or whatever. Try to get through the last 16, which won't be easy, and see where we can go from there.
Jeff: That's not the way to win.
Kathie: Is there a way to win?
Jeff: There's a way to lose more slowly.

Itís a good job that Hitler isnít around anymore or the German team might be invited to have a shower at Auschwitz after that WC humiliation

Also...seriously?

Martinez has already said Lukaku, Hazard, de Bruyne and Mertens got 'knocks' against Tunisia

That's the right attitude to adopt as momentum is the key for England, should start with his strongest 11 then bring on Vardy for Kane, Rashford for Sterling and Rose for Young after an hour or so, this would show intent and give fringe players valuable time against quality opposition which will be valuable going into the knockout rounds

Yes we never do well in the knockout stages, but given two choices, why would you go for (potentially) A over B for the chance to get to a World Cup final??

A) Colombia, Brazil, France
B) Japan, Sweden, Croatia

On paper and reputation, it's obvious yeah. In practice, I'm not so sure. France haven't put a decent 20 minutes of football together yet. I'd quite happily draw them. Columbia are dangerous, but not that good. Japan deservedly beat them. Brazil will be tough, I agree.

But then Spain (who you've conveniently left out) and Croatia are in the other half of the draw. Both really tough games. Sweden dealt with Mexico comfortably, and Japan beat Columbia (albeit with a sending off).
