If I wanted to call him a paedo, I would of said paedo. I didn't mean that obviously. Apologies for that @Gash but not for the rest.

Don't get pissy with me Con. just pointing out to you how the word you used had a different meaning to the majority of people on here. Just trying to help you out brother

Who is getting pissy with you? Again. Where is his coming from? I said sorry for calling him a nonce.

"If I wanted to call him a peado, I'd have called him a peado." is a bit of an aggressive way of saying 'Sorry, I didn't know that word had such conitations in the UK." Don't you think?

He’s fucking brilliant.

Balls of steel that lad. We’re winning something with him leading the team.

Who was it who said on here he'd be a one season wonder

To be fair most of the niggly things won’t be seen as that bad in South America ;)

Plus they were two bad dives from Maguire and Lingard.

And...

He’s still a lot of people’s best player ever!

Someone described him as a rock star which is pretty accurate considering his lifestyle, mythical adulation (by some).

Still the greatest player I've ever seen in my humble.

Tough one for me.

I still like the street/ rubbish pitch footballer story.

Making Napoli win, plus I like Naples as similar to L’pool (even weather wise these days :) ) etc.

Messi is much smoother in that he’s been at Barça since he was 13/14 but his consistency is absolutely brutal in all aspects of the game. Goals, assists, aesthetics etc year after year after year.

Tough choice.

It's difficult to compare because of the different era in which they played. Maradona was a tough cookie along with being skilful. If he'd have played in the modern era, with more protection, he would have been even better. I don't subscribe to the Maradona is better because he won the WC though. Yes he was phenomenal in 86, but Stephan Guivarch is a WC winner

Yeah the different eras make this thing impossible really. Some of the tackles on Maradona were horrendous but equally he may not have coped with modern self discipline requirements etc.

Good point at the end

But a great tournament and a final that was 100 times better than 1990's.

I’ve heard people say the quality and entertainment was really poor, but it was other things around it that made it good.

It's difficult to explain but it was the last WC before the game became what it is now. Hardly any foreign players played for British sides for example do we were watching people we'd only ever heard about or see every four years. But things like Argentina being beaten by Cameroon in the opening game, the tension of England's group with it almost going to the toss of a coin to decide who would go through. The Cameroon and Belgium games for England. The quality was probably not the best but the excitement was right up there. It was also a really hot summer and that helped. Also the hype and 24/7 news coverage wasn't there so there's was genuine anticipation for the next game.
