The photo I saw he was smiling his little head off :)

I guess. I remember the days my parents would have to get their car serviced before making a long 2 hour trip to see the family. Don't even think about a 2 hour car drive now.

Yeah, the States is an insanely vast place.

Couldn't believe it when I lived in Florida for a year.

I drove up to NY the other week. Stayed there for the morning, drove back. 4.5 hour round trip. No biggie.

Where in FL were you? Father in law just finished building a house in Fort Myers this year. Spends his winters down there, then comes back up to Jersey for our summers. It's good because we don't see him much :)

Two hours will get you about 10 miles on the M6 on a Friday afternoon.

I'm from down south. That reminds me of the Dartford Tunnel.

I used to live in Hove for a year. Driving from there to the north west on a Friday afternoon I felt like Chris Rea.

It takes me almost two hours to get to a decent motorway to get anywhere !

You've mentioned your F in L before and I have this mental picture of him with wavy white hair, a big white mustache, one of those reddish check open neck shirts like lumberjacks wear, dark blue jeans with a stretch waist, a thick leather belt to support a large tummy and one of those flashy belt buckles with a flag of the US or the confederacy on. Oh, and a large white stetson and cowboy boots (probably without spurs on) when he goes out.
The question I ask myself is, do I really want to spoil this fantasy picture?
I'll leave it to you to judge where the greater disappointment may lie and protect me from it!!!

Think Chevy Chase in the 80s. That's closer to the mark.
