Would have liked to see him in a free role behind a good striker with a half-decent midfield behind him - even a year or two ago he still had real star quality, would have been interesting to see what he could have done.

Say what you like about Sam etc. But he knew he had to drop Rooney deep to babysit the midfield. He did a very average job, but just having someone ROUGHLY creative in profile for CM did make a big difference. Although it came with plenty of problems too (No legs, no vertical dribble, poor short passing in dangerous areas, not good enough but still a super star level ball magnet which pulled touches away from the already touch-shy Sigurdsson).

Anyway, speaks volumes that we’re literally just looking to jettison him and not getting any kind of fee for him.

Brands must have looked at the contracts sheet and fainted.

Good luck in America Wayne lerd, keep it in your kecks tho.
I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

He looks like a kid being taken on holidays by his mum.

In a lots of ways, that's exactly what's happening.
Jeff: That's not the way to win.
Kathie: Is there a way to win?
Jeff: There's a way to lose more slowly.

Good to get him off the wage bill. Hope he does well in DC and following his retirement I hope her comes back to work for the club. Think his experience and love for the club would be invaluable.

Great news, Rooney's return started off okay but it was to detriment of some of our other players.
