I know I'm biased, but I always refer to him as the greatest keeper ever. That 84-85 season we had half a dozen players scoring double figures,we were banging goals in for fun ,we had hero's all over the field, yet he was voted footballer of the year by the football writers.A giant of a man in every sense of the word.Had the pleasure of meeting him at a book signing/speaking afternoon about 5 years ago,he was supposed to speak for 45 mins but stayed for over 2 hours.I asked him what was his favourite/most important save was and he just shrugged his shoulders and asked did I have one. I replied I did it was the one from mark falco in the last few seconds of the spurs away game in that 84-85 season to preserve our 2-1 lead,it was an unbelievable tip over from a bullet header at point blank range that left falco on his knee's pounding the floor in disbelief and ray clemence at the other end applauding.Nev admitted he couldn't remember it.The word legend is the most over used in sport, however it's totally right the he is regarded as one.

It’s not often you can believe everything that’s said about a person on an Internet forum however in this case it’s easy to believe every post.....

I worked with nev when he was goalkeeper coach at Huddersfield many years ago he was still playing at Torquay at the time and worked at Huddersfield too. He’d drive down for games twice a week then be at his coaching sessions the next day...

What makes him a special person? I was a young coach at the time...he was a legend I obviously knew who he was but didn’t have the bottle to approach him at work....the lads told him I was a scouser and a blue....HE approached me after a coaching session..conversation goes summit like..
Nev..” your a scouser Arnt ye”
Me...”err  err ye...I am..”
Nev “yer a blue too aren’t ye...”
Me..”err err ye born and bred...”
Nev “ why didn’t ye let on to me then..ye ignorant get..””
Me....” err err well err didn’t like to bother ye...”
Nev “ dickhead ha ha...” and he walks away....
Next day I’m told I’m working with nev as he’d specially asked for me....we worked together for quite a few sessions whilst he was there and he was great...I asked him who he hated playing against the most once..” Ian Wright..I never knew wat the twat was gonna do....genius...” he said ..
Legend..but not in his own mind.....

Saw him playing 5 a side on the Cheshire lines pitches in maghull when I was a kid. I can hardly remember but my dad said he was the best player there.
I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

He’s very open about what he doesn’t know or understand.

He’s the best of us, build him a fucking statue imo.

"Build him a fucking statue"! lolol

I remember at the time that save was pretty much the title decider because if put an end to any hopes Spurs had of catching us. So many times Nev won us the game with his incredible goalkeeping.

I've never seen a more positive comments section on any article, than I have with this. Makes you very proud.

This is the way we all need to be moving forward with project mark 2. Silva and Brands need and deserve all the backing we can afford them

I'm referring to the article on Big Nev. There's 800 plus comments on that Guardian article, from people all over the country and all over the world, many of them not Evertonians, and they all fucking love him, based on the content of what he said and what he believes.

A number of them even say 'well I wasn't expecting that when I clicked on the article'.

Just a brilliant, brilliant fella, who happens to be one of our greatest ever players.

This is my worry. He's going to Cark it before I meet him

Love and admire the man to bits but I fear you are right, look closely in his left hand he’s holding a bottle of Lucozade, that’s 16 spoon fulls of sugar right there ! Surely someone could give him a bit of support in dropping a couple of stone, just cutting out that shit would help.

We will never have a keeper as good as him, our greatest ever! Used to love hearing him scream at all the players for 90 mins, called them all sorts haha

Also remember him refusing to get his losers medal in the shitty Zenith Data Cup final when Palace beat us, he was asked why a few years later, he basically said the whole cup was a farce and an embarrassment to a club the size of Everton

Aye. He puts so much effort into championing other peoples wellbeing he completely neglects his own.

And no Nev thread can be complete without this, obviously.
