Who was he supposed to pass the ball to yesterday?

DCL, Tosun, Sigurdsson/Niasse, and Walcott/Lookman spent the better part of 90 minutes standing in a horizontal line next to their markers.

Similarly, I didn't understand the criticism of Siggy yesterday.  Exactly what the fuck was he expected to do out there?  Sprout wings and fly?

How about show for the ball every once in awhile?

Sigurdsson is so passive in possession, it hurts. Criticism fully warranted.

Do you have one of those charts for that?  I thought he showed for the ball plenty, there just weren't any outlets for it.

He did fade in the second half into the muckety muck, along with everyone else not named DCL.

I like his overall game, and think heíll only get better with time, but he has to stop misplacing easy passes. Can be so wasteful at times.

I doubt heíll be starting when Gana and Morgs are both fit, and I do see the CM position being strengthened in the next couple of windows, so not really sure where he will fit into the squad.

I thought that the players on both wings were making runs but Tom was doing pirouettes and misplacing passes into the middle which was crowded.

Sigurdsson attempted 14 passes according to WhoScored.

Tosun attempted 15 and heís a CF. Lookman attempted 12 and he was a second half sub.

Doesnít sound like someone who got on the ball nearly enough.

always the local lads that get it in the ear isn't it?

I like him, I think he'll do alright as long as we stop giving him grief

fella who stands next to me at the match said to his lad the season Davies got into the first team that soon enough it'll be him who everyone's getting at.  2 years later and he's bang on the money.

It's the easiest thing to do when you've watched pretty much every minute a player has played.

A lot of our players get a pass for their performances because of their reputations from elsewhere. Davies, Calvert-Lewin etc don't have that.

He will come good given time and patience, the problem is, when the rest around him are playing shit he tries to up the tempo and its to his detriment.
Watch him with Gana who is a full workhorse Davies is a different player totally, with Schneiderlin he has to work harder, because Schneiderlin doesn't pull his weight as much, but looks better because of Davies workrate.
That's why he was made captain for the cup game, he's earned it.
I see a different Davies to most on twitter like.

Yeh thatís a good point and ties in with the Davies, Gana, Rooney axis that delivered our best performances last season. Itís a conundrum that we need to solve if Schneiderlin is going to be Silvaís main selection in that position.

He plays in the most pivotal position on the pitch and is the club record signing. Demanding to be involved when weíre at home and the opposition are giving us space to attack would be a requisite in my book.

The bigger picture is that he was a signing we didnít need then and we donít need now, but heís here and we need to use him.

thought it was a bit unfair him stepping into the gana role and not doing it as well and being the target of criticism

although I don't yet really understand what his ideal role is to be fair

The struggle to break down teams who come for a point is going to be a recurring issue this year.

On the break we have a bit of zoom and can get in behind, but when trying to penetrate a deep block you need good passers of the ball and we donít really have them. 1 v 1 specialists can make a difference but we arenít particularly blessed there, especially with Richarlison out, and a deep lying playmaker is needed to set the temp and switch left to right and probe and break lines - we donít have one of them either.

Plus Sigurdsson is allergic to the ball for some reason.
I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

The other way to approach playing against deep lying defences is to follow Spurs and Liverpool's lead and just pepper the goal with long distance shots.

You'd think that would suit someone like Sigurdsson too...

Would love to see the ground covered stats for our players in that - always seems like both davies and sig cover a lot of ground in a match
