A bit weird if you trusted either of them over Baines, one of the all-time best penalty takers in Prem history.

If Baines says he wants to take one he takes one.

Poor team selection .. under estimating a team is a poor trays for a manager .

But I won't hold it against him .

Ah well, at least we can now concentrate on trying to get out the bottom half, before we go out early in the FA Cup...

Fair point re Baines, though his pens aren't what they used to be (likely still best option).  I wouldn't have hesitated to listed Richarlison and Theo as taking them, for sure.  No brainers.

Penalties are only luck if you close your eyes and blast the ball like an eight year old

Or do that silly dance

None of the team selection was bad, you can't refuse to make ANY changes.  I would have stayed with Pickford is all.  But sounds like the goal was horrid defending more than anything.

We're not ready. Every game we have similar issues to contend with and it's likely only through (you'd hope) continued coaching and more most likely more recruitment will that potentially change. Not to mention the two summer recruits that we're yet to see a single minute from.

If we can't win these games fairly comfortably, there is no way we win against the better teams we'd likely face later on.

We need to try and find a balance that works and a settled team that we can be confident can compete in all areas of the pitch. It doesn't feel like we've had that this season yet.

Maybe by the FA Cup we'll have found a way of playing and a team we can be confident in. This was too soon.

You only get to feel good about Everton for a couple of days tops, before another kick in the nuts comes strolling along. Twas ever thus.
Jeff: That's not the way to win.
Kathie: Is there a way to win?
Jeff: There's a way to lose more slowly.

I can handle a kick in the nuts, it's the hope that hurts more. Just when you think you've turned a corner you realise you're in a square.

Seen it coming a mile off.

We will never win this cup unless we take it seriously.

We arent in europe so give it a go with your best team.

Bollocks.

Also, we have been nowhere near consistent enough that one could seriously entertain the notion of us winning this Cup.  Even if we never played another Prem side and/or an away tie.  This day was always coming, matter of when, not if.  So let's not lose all of our shit.  This is a transitional season, and the sausage making won't be pretty.

Knew this was coming as soon as I seen the team.We are no way good enough to leave our better players out against other premier league teams.Confidence is a bit fragile so this was a good chance to kick on from Saturdays win.Every fucking year we do this in the competition, rest players and blow it.Pick your best team and get the job done, when are we going to fucking learn.
