4. Joseph Yobo
Date of Birth: September 6, 1980
Clubs: Standard Liege, Marseille, Tenerife [Loan], Everton [Initial Loan]
Position: Centre back
Nationality: Nigerian
Finest Everton moment: He became the first African to captain the club against Larissa in the 2008 UEFA Cup.
Joseph Yobo was David Moyes’ first Everton signing in 2002 (on an initial loan). The move was made permanent just a year later but Joseph had to play second fiddle to Stubbs and Weir for a long time. He eventually broke into the team properly in the 2005/06 season and played every minute of the following campaign. However, when he returned from the African Cup of Nations in the 2007/ 08 season, he found himself on the bench again as Jagielka and Lescott became Moyes’ favoured pairing and has never been able to truly re-establish himself as a first-choice centre-half at the club.
He is known for his pace and aerial ability.
