Everton's Under 18 side will be in action on Monday as Carlisle United visit Finch Farm for a friendly match.

Carlisle are currently training near Preston and will also face Rochdale.

Marca, the Spanish sports paper, is reporting that Mehmet Aurelio has flown to Merseyside in order to sign for Everton.

The 30 year old defensive midfielder is apparently out of contract with Fenerbahce and ready to move to the Premier League after the Blues offered more money that Spanish Real Betis.

Aurelio is Turkey's vice captain and has played 20 times for his country (despite being born in Brazil!)

Everton are set to unveil Steve Round as David Moyes' new assistant manager today according to the Press Association.

The Blues have been locked in negotiations over securing Round's appointment for the last few days, but it is believed he will be at Finch Farm to meet his new colleagues today.

Phil Neville wants Everton to take the chance and invest heavily in expanding the squad next season as the Blues' captain aims high after skippering his side into Europe two seasons on the trot.

“We've had two good seasons on the run now and we're showing improvement every year,” Neville said.

“Sixth last year and then fifth this season - the next step is fourth and I think there is miles more to come from this team. It is a very important summer for the club. We have to press on and, in footballing terms, it would be a major disaster if we didn't push on and keep progressing as a club.

"We have to bring in the right players, better players than we have already. We need the players who will get us into the top four.”

“We just need that little bit extra now. In the big games, especially against the top four, maybe we have missed that special player a little bit, and that's what we need to find this summer.

“Now we have to be competing for players with the clubs above us. To catch them, we have to be looking at the same players they are. If not, fifth will be the maximum we can expect, but at the moment we look the likeliest to break into the top four.” ...discuss this in our forum...
