STEVE Round has been given permission to talk to Everton after the Goodison Park club made a formal approach for Newcastle United's first-team coach.

A key member of Kevin Keegan's backroom staff, the 37-year-old (brought to St James's Park by Sam Allardyce last summer) could be confirmed as David Moyes' new No 2 early next week.

Keegan was keen for him to extend his association with Newcastle but the fact that a new contract not yet been offered to him, should mean that Moyes will get his man.

Moyes has been linked with Round for many months now and has finally made a move for the former Middlesbrough and England coach. Negotiations with Round's agent are expected to start over the weekend, when Everton's chief executive Keith Wyness returns from holiday.

Round is already familiar with some of the players at Goodison after working with Joleon Lescott, Phil Neville and Andy Johnson during his England days.

The move would also suggest that Moyes will surely commit himself to Everton also, as he looks to build on the solid foundations he has laid down over the past few years. ...discuss this in our forum...
