Beattie's England hope

LAN_PRINT_1    alerts    rss
In form striker James Beattie still hopes he can make the England squad for this summers World Cup. But the striker makes it clear that his first responcibility is to Everton. Beattie said:

"As I have always said, the priority for me is to play well for Everton Football Club and hopefully I am doing a bit of that now.

"I am really enjoying my football at the minute and I have never given up the dream of playing for England again. But that is a decision that is out of my hands. I will just keep playing football with a smile on my face whether it happens or it doesn't."

In adittion, Beattie believes the recent trip to Miami has given the players an opportunity to recharge their batteries and hopes the rest will aid Everton's efforts in silencing some 50,000 barcode fans on saturday with another three points for the blues'. Beattie continued:

"I think the break has done us good. The lads were buzzing before the break and most of them would have said then they didn't want the break, they would have preferred to play on the Wednesday or the following Saturday.

"But we have been away and had a chance to recharge the batteries a little bit. The lads have come back flying so hopefully we can come back where we left off.

"The gaffer said the trip to Miami was a reward to the lads. We got away and got a few days of sun. We trained everyday, which was nice and had some fun with a few five-a-sides. There were a couple of hard running sessions but we were free to go and do what we wanted in the afternoon and it was great.

"The lads will have benefited from it, not just as a rest but as a team bonding session. It was quality, the gaffer has come up trumps.

"There is a good craic amongst the lads. The lads are great, it is easy to get on with every one of them and I consider every one as a good friend of mine. It counts for a lot when you are on the pitch."

"We have got a really good record from the last couple of months and it is all credit to the lads. We can't fear going anywhere at the moment. We are extremely confident - whether that is a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. But we are looking forward to the game and it is a great place to go and play football.

"You like to go and play well at any stadium. But they have a tradition of centre-forwards at Newcastle similar to Everton's and it will be a nice place to go and get three points. I don't care who scores, along as we get the three points and silence the 50,000 there.

"I enjoy scoring but as long as we get the points I am happy. We have won a lot of games this year 1-0 and if we can start getting a couple more here and there it would be good."
