The amazing story of Merseyside’s greatest sporting icon Dixie Dean is coming live to the stage for the first time in 2008 to crown a double celebration.

Midway through Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture year the curtain will go up on a special theatrical production of the legendary Everton and England centre forward’s life and career.

Staged to herald the 80th anniversary of Dixie’s fantastic, unassailable record of 60 League goals in a season, the show will climax a series of community-wide events in salute of the man who took the scoring art to new heights.

The Dixie Dean Story will have a three-performance run at Liverpool Olympia Theatre in May 2008. Produced by Aintree-based theatre company Arts2u Limited, under the direction of Gillian Beattie, the show will feature digital technology and music with a script written by author and broadcaster John Keith, who wrote Dixie’s biography.

Actors will portray Dixie at various stages of his life, Keith will narrate the story and there will be guest appearances by Everton stars in a long-awaited stage tribute to the legend who was born William Ralph Dean in Birkenhead in 1907.

Sponsorship packages for the show can now be booked, but they are set to be snapped up so move quickly by contacting Arts2u on 0151 284 7067, 07702 809 751, email gill.beattie©arts2ulimited.com or visit the website at www.arts2ulimited.com

The build-up to the anniversary weekend of his 60-goal record, which Dixie completed with a hat trick against Arsenal on May 5, 1928,will embrace the community.
