As Everton were being beaten 2-1 at The Emirates today, rather than spending the last ten minutes of the game urging the two fresh-legged strikers to grab an equaliser, many Evertonians spent their time dodging missiles from Arsenal fans sat above them.
Many more found themselves at the mercy of stewards and police officers who forcibly ejected them from the stadium for having the nerve to complain about the behaviour of the home fans, whilst others simply tried to protect their children from coins, bottles of "fluid" and matchday programmes.
One fan saw his 12 year old son hit by a coin from above, and as he shielded him from further missiles had a video taken of the incident (shown below) in which you can see things landing and the reaction it provoked.
In a modern stadium there is simply no excuse for placing rival fans above each other in tiers, and no excuse for provisions not to be made for this to be avoided - if Everton can ensure this doesn't happen in a 90 year old stand, then Arsenal should be capable of doing it in a purpose-built arena.
