I may be off but I find it cowardly.
Ok so maybe a young player might not have the same grit/understanding/responsibility (insert excuse here) but if you want to change the game you have to roll the dice sometime.
Whatever happens they’ll learn something from it and be better for it.
Ill be that guy.
He looked absolutely miles off it defensively in the Roma game and made a couple of really poor errors both defensively and going forward. Not picking him wasn't cowardly based on that performance.
He looked much more switched on and physically capable today, and outside of a tiny bit of ball watching had a good performance. If he doesnt get picked at all this season then I think you'll have more of a point.

Not really going to disagree with what you’ve said there, just going to add that first half I thought was decent enough and going forward was exciting (more because it was positive and attacking than great or even accomplished) and the second half I think is where the errors you’re talking about mainly happened, but that is also after Roma were dominating us all over the pitch and pulling us out of shape.
So yeah, not disagreeing, just adding context that the whole team was playing poorly at this time I thought.
Its just pre-season and a friendly and I have just seen the highlights but when all the goals we score are deflections and huge goalkeeper mistakes it does give me the idea that we are still a long way from being a side able to score a lot of goals in the PL…
Just bought tickets to the Lille game. Won't get chance to take in a 'real' game for some time so really looking forward to this and seeing the new stadium! Taking my old man and daughter so it'll be cool to have 3 generations of blues in attendance.
