Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Great performance from George, and a nice link up with Aznou too, who definitely needs to be getting minutes this season. Nice game from Armstrong too. Much better from Barry, but we definitely need another striker. Hard to gauge how good the performance was though as the barcodes were poor.

Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Our second half performance certainly eclipsed the first. Amirite guys? Guys?
High five?!

Happy with that performance, although Newcastle are an absolute rabble.

Still need to address the FB situation, especially a proper RB and better at LB if Moyes won't play Aznou over Mykolenko

Farming karma like the Dalai Llama
Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Happy on two fronts, we've actually looked okay after the first couple of games or so and Newcastle look fucking shite.
Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Still plenty of work to be done with this squad but hopefully that makes some people feel a bit better.
Our downside potential has been talked about extensively and I think it ignores that we have some upside too.
(The fullbacks are a legitimate issue right now, mind you.)

Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
You don't get away with some of the defending we did that game and not concede a few. That's the main concern as most have noted, and I hope Moyes realises that if it weren't for Newcastle being a bit crap we'd have conceded more than we did. Outside of that a fair number of positives.
It's also addressable though between bringing in (a good hopefully somewhat pacey) RB and Branthwaite coming in too.

Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Performances at this stage of pre season matter so it’s really good to see us beat a premier league team 3-1 with what should be a pretty scratch team.
I’ve not watched any of pre season but sounds like Armstrong, Barry and Rhol could go up a level.
There is a good young core to the squad, I just have little faith in Moyes getting the best out of it this season.

Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
1st 20 mins were poor after that we grew into the game and took control….we have more pace and energy in this squad than we’ve had for years….throw in there the skill element a lot of these players have and it’s starting to look like a squad coming together.
I personally thought tarks and Keane were very safe today…worried a bit at the start when I saw Elanga and wissa in there but thought they handled them quite well…..biggest problem is the 2 full back positions….if aznou wants to take the position he has to be better defensively….for me his tendency to get forward is diminishing his defensive duties…a lot of the time he was past George and taking the space he wanted to run into…..leaving big gaps behind….maybe that’s why Moyes isnt “trusting him yet”….and we’re left with Myko!!

Re: Pre-season (Match Threads Here)
Feeling quite optimistic about the season. The squad is populated by lots of younger footballers who want to play with the ball. Add Norgaard and Garner into the middle, and you have more steel and defensive discipline.
Not many carthorses left. One notable one at left back obviously.

A couple of centre backs too.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2026 8:10 pm Feeling quite optimistic about the season. The squad is populated by lots of younger footballers who want to play with the ball. Add Norgaard and Garner into the middle, and you have more steel and defensive discipline.

But I agree. Quietly optimistic.
