We really did dodge a bullet on this one.

'Squad is in a strong place and upgraded significantly', well thats a blatant lie isnt it, im not sure how he could actually say that?Trowel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 12:36 pm Long interview with Angus Kinnear from Giulia Bould - jotted some notes:

Squad is in a strong place and upgraded significantly
We're not behind where we thought we'd be
Right back was top priority in the window
We're not in a bad position on right-back options
Confident we'll bring a right back in
Remained in contact with Grealish
Ndiaye is part of the vision to keep our best players
Club finances are geared towards sustainable success
Owners are keen to back us in the transfer window
Collaborative effort for transfers between Moyes and recruitment team
No discussions on new contract for Moyes
Focus this summer has been on squad building
All disappointed about how the season finished, not good enough
Now sees "Happily dissatisfied" as a failure in communication
- put out before Sunderland game when Europe was still in reach
A lot of reflection about how the season went
Inherited infrastructure that wasn't good enough to allow us to succeed on the pitch
Revenue generating capacity has jumped from bottom third to top third in the league
Friedkin Group saw missing out on Europe as a failure
"Appropriate pressure" from them this summer
Suggestions of a lack of ambition hurt
Europe and cup success are the goals for this season
Look and feel of stadium will evolve over next couple of years to feel more like Everton's stadium
Appreciate the notes @Trowel as can't get BBC sound to work, maybe region blocked.Trowel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 12:36 pm Long interview with Angus Kinnear from Giulia Bould - jotted some notes:

I don't know.
I think any significant squad improvement is very doubtful:Cods wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 1:26 pm I don't know.
We've only lost Gana (as brilliant as he is/was) and I rate Nørgaard to fill that hole pretty well. Dwight?
Brought in Johnson, Hackney, and the kids seem to be improving a fair bit. Retained our quality so far.
I agree we're still lacking 1 or 2 of top quality, but depth that we can call on has improved significantly.
Expect there's 1 or 2 more to go.
Its like were being managed as a club with stabilisers on. Papa Friedkin taking baby steps with us.kramer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 2:50 pm We’re in a strange limbo where we haven’t done anything bad on the footballing side but haven’t done anything good either.
I broadly like the business we’ve done under the Friedkins and the squad we’re building.
Feels like we’re only a manager and a couple of choice additions away from jumping to the top of the 7th-15th logjam (super fine margins separating these clubs) and being on the heels of the top 6.
Pretty much.MmmBlueBranthwaite wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 4:46 pm Its like were being managed as a club with stabilisers on. Papa Friedkin taking baby steps with us.
Whist progress isnt as swift as we'd like we seem to be making good decisions overall.
