Not sure how fans will cope with refs acknowledging making mistakes, nor how refs will be able to admit they have. Games these days are rarely ruined as a contest.

But being able to clarify decisions might be both good and bad, good as more people might be able to understand reasoning as you say (rather than misinterpreting the rules), but bad as it'll highlight more inconsistency between individual refs decisions, and focus attention and analysis on ever-reducing levels of import, rather than removing it altogether.

People (myself included) just gotta accept things as they are sometimes, everyone's too keen on highlighting perceived injustices. The game used to be more about enjoyment of skill rather than the castigation of its adjudicators.

Clattenburg is the only God-like personality I recall in a ref uniform. Most seem like the stereotypical introverts.

Not that hard?
Ok, theoretically, imagine you're the FA deciding the threshold of closeness, what should it be and how do you justify that decision? How will it be applied? Not sure anyone can.

VAR is very much Pandora's box.

Just make it the rule that the full foot has to be in front, that can’t be difficult ?

But you can score with yer arse, or your noggin, if you want to. How is someone's feet, that might not even be under their body when the ball is played, might not be on the ground, might be size 15 1/2s, facing the wrong way etc, be definitive? It'd be a rule for rules sake.

And most of all, what relevance would it have to the reason it was brought in in the first place,... to stop the advantage gained from big lump up top, goal-hanging?

There might have to be a line drawn somewhere, but it's never going to be perfect, so let's leave a little joy in the game and bin off VAR.

Oh, binning it off would be my first choice every day of the week, just thinking if we had to have it then it’s not offside unless the fool foot is ahead not a shirt sleeve, shoulder or nostril hair.

Fuck me, there will never be another penalty if that's a deemed "degree of normal contact".

Anyway, fuck them. 🙂

Flag on the play. Might as well be chequered.
