Re: Ashley "not so" Young
Just read his comments in the rag. Our game plan was to give up possession to Fulham. Then we'd hit them on the break. They wanted them to go wide and they did.
Am I trippin? We're too slow to counter a good team. We pump it long in hope and throw Keane up front when we needed a goal... FFS.
I wonder if Tyson will let Paul tire his fists out on his face before looking to knock him out because he can take a dig...

Re: Ashley "not so" Young
This is Dyche's whole thing.
Be very narrow, let them attack the box.
Getting it up the other end and scoring almost doesn't come into it. Just dont fuck up and we'll find a way up the other end when we get a corner or throw in. Kick to touch essentially.
Out of 100 clubs in the top 5 European leagues, Everton are 99th for possession of the ball apparently.

Re: Ashley "not so" Young
Not sure we'd taka them into oblivion with 70% possession either.
When we're a worse team than our opposition there's not alot you can do unless they've got some deficiencies you can exploit.

Re: Ashley "not so" Young
Every single game now seems to be seen as a David v Goliath task that poor little Everton couldn't possibly hope to be allowed to play some football in.
Fulham at home!

Re: Ashley "not so" Young
How much better do they need to be before it's OK?
Or is it not about the quality of the two teams and more about them being a small club?
Re: Ashley "not so" Young
Can we not press higher and pressure them in dangerous areas?
Can we not have a better idea of how to use the ball instead of pumping it long at every opportunity and seeing it come right back at us?
Re: Ashley "not so" Young
No idea but it’s Fulham. Did they even finish in the top half last season?UnsyisaRhino wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 11:35 am How much better do they need to be before it's OK?

Re: Ashley "not so" Young
Obviously they play in extremes but watched Chelsea at home on the weekend and their pressing is nuts. As soon as the ball is in play, they’re closing down the defenders/goalkeeper.
Teams get to the halfway line without being pressed with us.
Re: Ashley "not so" Young
We aren't utterly devoid of footballers, there's really no reason for not holding the ball for a bit
Re: Ashley "not so" Young
People saying 'it was only Fulham ffs'. Well yes maybe so but that's a Fulham attack of:
Smith-Rowe
Traore
Iwobi
Jiminez
Up against...
Young
Keane
Tarks
Mykolenko
I think even the most anti Dyche fans must somewhere deep down be able to recognise that we couldn't afford them any space to run at that back line with that pace?
We didn't play well with the ball, there's a fully comprehendible argument around that, but also it's hard to be in the ascendency when your whole game plan has to be about protecting the weak area of your team against the strongest part of the opposition.
I think we just need to move on from the Fulham game, we didn't deserve anything from it, it needs to be better than what it was... Get Branthwaite back in the team and at least that slow weak back line has something more to it that in turn needs less protection.

It's good I think and they look tidy but I can't look at that and think wow how do we land a dig on them. Have some self respect even if we are shite. There's a proper lowering of expectations going on at the moment and it's scary to see!
