January transfer window
Re: January transfer window
DCL is 28 this year. For a striker, he hasn’t showed a reason to keep him on a longer contract than a 1 year extension. Therefore I agree the clubs position on this and to offer him what he probably wants will be too much for what he deserves.
DCL will want another 3-4 years job security. There is nothing to suggest that the club will get value for money from him based off his historical stats. He doesn’t really score goals, so not sure what we are actually getting in return.
I would rather sign another striker with Beto and Chermiti as very able backups.

Dcl is at a complete crossroads in his career best he can get is maybe backup to isak at Newcastle but nothing to suggest he will get anything near what he is on here

Re: January transfer window
By running his contract down he'll be expecting a big signing on fee from his next contract, whether that's us or someone else. Twenty-eight year old PL footballers don't tend to take pay cuts.
Of course if he doesn't re-sign with us we'll have to pay a transfer fee for his replacement.

Re: January transfer window
I'm pretty much content with that January. Would I feel the same with Dyche and 6-9 points fewer? Most definitely not. We are now in a position of relative comfort, it can still go tits-up but that seems unlikely.
Given that, a quiet January with only a loan with an option to buy seems very, very sensible if a little dull. We could have gone all in and blown £40M on Tosun/Walcott mark 2, this is so much better.
Take a step back, calculate the chances of staying up are way higher than going down and save to buy to a strategy in the summer rather out of fear and desperation in January. Sensible and a bit dull, hallelujah.

This isn’t even his final form.bigtonyblue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 9:55 am I notice brap2 has turned into a fully fledged flapper , was brap1 as bad?![]()
Evo Level 1: Brap
Evo Level 2: Braptor
Evo Level 3: Braptorex
To be honest the only reason I’m not flapping actually has nothing to do with us - it’s the fact that there are easily 4 other teams this season that are considerably shitter than us and they’ve not had good windows either. The league will probably finish something similar to what it is now, one or two late charge outliers aside.

Re: January transfer window
Brap does have a point though, there clearly were some funds available (hence the late Fellows bid) and Moyes has said he wants to add multiple bodies so seems like a bit of a failure.
We’ll be fine I’m sure because there’s a decent gap and the clubs below aren’t looking great

Re: January transfer window
i believe its a big requirement for modern day footballers to have 2 feet at all times otherwise its doubtful they would pass the medical
although there are some disabled leagues where this would not be a problem

I’m told nothing in it and also no bid for any player from my midlands people
Re: January transfer window
Not saying it was anyones fault or anyone should be castigated for it, I think had the opportunity and means lines up we would have got players in, Moyes was extremely clear on us needing players, I'm simply saying - it's clearly a disappointment that we didn't.
You can say, well maybe but I reckon we'll be fine because X y z, or well I'm not because I disagree with the manager I actually think we've got too many players and they're all too bloody good, or whatever and they're all fine opinions - mine is just different, and presumably, the same as Moyes'.

One thing he said, paraphrasing: 'the right kind of players as people', really stood out for me. Maybe there's the talent and the cash lined up, but not the mental makeup he's looking for, like Cahill/Jags/Arteta types, not supremely gifted, but good mentally.brap2 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:55 pm Not saying it was anyones fault or anyone should be castigated for it, I think had the opportunity and means lines up we would have got players in, Moyes was extremely clear on us needing players, I'm simply saying - it's clearly a disappointment that we didn't.

Maybe more footballers are just tools these days, and the full package is even harder to find. Or perhaps maybe they're more professional with the extra things they learn, classes, psychological help etc. Not sure.
We see the skills/physical stuff, but little of the interpersonal human stuff in media and elsewhere, which seems to be Moyes' area of expertise, these sorts of synergies he extracts and enhances.
Might also mean he's here focusing on a longer term squad culture focus, a longer term vision...

in the past moyes always had to be sure that the players coming in had the right kind of personality/mentality,Cods wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 12:31 am One thing he said, paraphrasing: 'the right kind of players as people', really stood out for me. he couldnt afford to bring in a player who turned out to be a dickhead and if any did turn out to be he quickly got shut
Re: January transfer window
Yep exactly, and a solid human also arguably adds to a better team bond. Even now with presumably a better transfer wedge.

Re: January transfer window
Would think it came down to us not wanting to pay extra to tempt clubs to sell in this window when we don't desperately need them for the rest of this season. Think if we'd been 6 or 7 points worse off we would have signed more players
