Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Did a good job here dyche had us all questioning his signings but they were generally good just poor coaching that made them look bad operating under such circumstances I think he goes with a lot of credit
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Hard to really judge, not been a fan previously but his signings that appeared to be poor have definitely stepped up under Moyes and looked less catastrophic.
I wouldn't say I've seen anything that makes me desperate for him to stay and work under a better financial situation but also wouldn't complain if we'd kept him around.
As long as we get someone in, that person works well with Moyes, and is able to build something sustainable I'm not too arsed who that is.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
I think he’s done well and would be up for keeping him on. If TFG think they can improve on him, however, then no sentimentality - let’s go for the upgrade.
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Interesting that it seems like they don't want to keep Thelwell on. Nothing against that, but it would be good to know why, and what his shortcomings are versus other candidates out there? Where has he specifically failed in his remit that makes TFG want to get rid? Perhaps its just about getting their own man in the door and having more control.
His performance has been pretty decent in the transfer market against horrible financial conditions. I have to say he goes out of the door with a lot of credit in my book and hope he gets another job quickly if indeed he is out the door at the end of the season.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
We’re in the league despite the well publicised net spend situation. That in itself shows. He’s done a good job.
A clean break is probably needed though. I can imagine the last
years have taken their toll. He’s probably ready to move on as much as we are.
Hope he finds himself a job at a balanced and well run club. He deserves it.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Needs some credit keeping Branthwaite, some DOFs would've sold him in our situation, and would have stuffed up.

He’s done well in awful circumstances. Not been easy for him and he definitely deserves credit.
Maybe TFG just want someone with a different skill set and contacts, seeing as we’ll be doing a little bit of shopping in Waitrose instead of all the shopping in Aldi

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Soucek would immediately be our best DM, he’s easily top half PL standard and since he doesn’t rely on pace I don’t see him dropping off anytime soon.
Issue is that he signed a new contract last year and would probably cost twenty five million plus - for that price we are better going elsewhere and buying younger with resale value

He's not and never will be better than Gana imoStirlingBlue wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 8:10 am Soucek would immediately be our best DM, he’s easily top half PL standard and since he doesn’t rely on pace I don’t see him dropping off anytime soon.

His best period of football seemed to be when Moyes used him in a Fellaini esque role

Big nope from me.
Effective player but he does not become our best DM by any stretch.
He’s a big lump up front.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
I imagine we enquired in January to see what possibility there was for a quick fix based on Moyes having almost zero time with our current squad and knowing what they could offer as a target man type and a fullback that got up and down. Thankfully we pulled out some results and didn’t need to go down that route
Can’t envisage either are under consideration for summer

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Not sure he adds much if anything in terms of quality. Don't see how he fits into our brave new world. 30 years old and on a new contract so, overpriced with little or no re-sale value. Sounds perfect for us in a previous life.TheRam wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 11:13 am https://fbref.com/en/players/6613c819/Tomas-Soucek

Lazy "manager returns to raid previous club" rumour.
