Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta joins the Blues at the end of the January 2005 transfer window on loan until the end of the season with Everton having the option to take the player on full time for £2.8m if he impresses.

A medial ligament injury announced after he signed will rule him out for a fortnight, so we will have to see what he can offer us when he is fit.

He has played at the highest level in both Spain and Scotland, moving from Barcelona 3 years ago to Rangers in a £6m deal, only to move back to Spain, Real Sociedad, for £2.7m last summer after failing to impress north of the border.

“David Moyes has a good vision for the future but I’d rather concentrate on the present because that’s the most important thing for me. If he likes me then we will see after that,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be here. Today was my first day and I enjoyed it with my teammates at the training ground.

“The team atmosphere is brilliant. They are all trying to speak to me and help me. I appreciate it and that’s really important.

“I hope that my time in the Scottish Premier League will help me here. It’s important that I know the language. Now I can speak with my teammates which helps me to adapt quicker.

“I know some of the players because I’ve been watching Everton on TV. I want to know my team mates as well as I can so it will help me on the pitch.”
