Everton’s captain for the night Ashley Williams says that his side just have to stick it out through the rough period that they are facing.
Williams wore the armband as Everton lost to Lyon at Goodison Park this evening and was at the centre of most things, including a fight which somehow managed to involve a fan who was holding his child.
The Welshman scored Everton’s goal, however, and sparked a brief period of belief before the French side went ahead and clung on.
He said, “I think we’ve got to continue to stick at it and work through this period.
“Every team has these kind of spells. We just need something to drop at the other end and not at ours. I think football goes like that.
“We can’t sulk about it because we’ve got another big game on Sunday – we have to turn around quickly and get a positive performance and result.”
