The Blues lost 2-0 and remain in the bottom three after a poor first half showing at Leicester.
Unsworth made changes at half time with Oumar Niasse and Beni Baningime coming on for Aaron Lennon and Kevin Mirallas but it was too little and Leicester held on despite Everton pressure.
“The positivity and the way we wanted to play was there for all to see in the second half,” said Unsworth.
“But we gave them a two goal start and in the first half we didn’t perform.
“Formations and tactics can go out the window if you don’t play on the front foot and I want us to play on the front foot.
“For some reason we didn’t.
“We changed it around and got two strikers on and played with a diamond and our performance was much better in the second half.
“For whatever reason it didn’t work so you’ve got to be reactive and show the players that you’re on the front foot.
“I certainly wanted to be brave and positive in the second half.
“A coupe of half chances for us but nowhere near the performance level I would expect in the first half.
“The performance level at Chelsea was terrific and maybe we should have won. Today in the first half was not acceptable but we’ve reacted and in the second half we’ve dominated without getting the reward.
“I’ll pick teams to go out and win games of football and it doesn’t matter the price tag or reputation of any player.
“Whoever gets the honour of being Everton manager – myself included – needs time with this set of players.
“Every coach and manager has their ideas of what they want to do and you need time on the training ground to implement those ideas.”
