Reports are suggesting that Alan Stubbs could be making his way to the Midlands after all, with Aston Villa and Wolves both chasing his signature.
Villa boss O’Leary had targeted the 33-year-old as back-up for first-choice defensive pair Olof Mellberg and Martin Laursen, as Liam Ridgewell was often found wanting at Premiership level last season, but Stubbs will be wary of sitting on Villa’s bench watching a mid-table squabble week after week.
Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle desperately needs to bolster his central defensive options as injury-plagued Joleon Lescott and Jody Craddock are currently his first-choice pair – but he will need to think big (money) before Stubbs and agent Paul Stretford will even consider a move down the leagues.
