According to today’s Daily Mirror, David Moyes is ready to splash the cash and make a £5m bid for Newcastle United’s want-away striker Craig Bellamy, and is apparently ready to smash his own wage cap by offering £45k a week to make the deal happen.
Bill Kenwright gave Moyes the “thumbs up” after agreeing a fee with old friend Freddy Shepherd and Everton were given permission to speak to the player who has already snubbed Aston Villa and Birmingham – I’m starting to warm to him already!
However, sources close to the player (we’re assuming The Mirror’s Alan Nixon means his agent here, we all know how he likes the company of agents) say that Bellamy won’t be willing to lose out on the £50k a week that his wage was due to rise to at Newcastle……we do hope they are having a laugh.
Everton appear to be Bellamy’s last option in England, other than an embarrassing return to training after a very public bust-up with Graeme Souness, so let’s see if his wallet is more important than his principals.
