Setanta’s Monday night game features Wigan Athletic hosting Everton. David Moyes keeps a 4-4-2, again pairing Yakubu and Saha up front in an unchanged side from their last game.
In a dominant first half, Kirkland tipped a Cahill drive out for a corner and made a second great save from Fellaini following Arteta’s short corner. The Spaniard relyed on this strategy for the second corner and after the ball dropped free at teh edge of the area, Joleon Lescott hit a low shot which found the corner of the goal.
Wigan were physical, but Everton bossed the midfield and continued to strike from distance, with Saha putting two chances wide.
In the second half, more pressure was applied and Tim Cahill looked further revitalised after a good performance against Middlesborough last week.
With 30 mins to go Saha ceased on a lapse from the defence and struck a 20 yard drive for 2-0 Everton. Further calamity ensued as Wigan folded and Kirkland’s clearance only reached Saha who made it 3-0.
James Vaughan replaced Yakubue for 15 mins and Everton continued to push and probe the Wigan defence.
Final score 3:0 Everton. MOTM: Tim Cahill.
