The Blues kept a clean sheet despite the visitors piling on the pressure, and had opportunity to win by an even greater margin when Leighton Baines saw his free kick flash off the cross bar shortly before the end of the game.
“It feels really good because it was a special game, a special opposition and a very good performance,” Martinez told Sky Sports News.
“You could see at the beginning we tried to get on the ball and tried to impose ourselves on the game, but I thought the intensity in which we defended in the second half was superb.
“We always carried a threat upfront as well. It was one of those performances where, as a manager, you are very proud of it.”
