AVB is – rightly- facing strong criticism for allowing Hugo Lloris to continue playing after being knocked out and has attacked the Everton striker for not doing enough to avoid the accidental collision.
He said: “I want to believe that Lukaku’s leg was not left late to clash into Hugo’s head.
“I find it remarkable through all of this amount of publicity that this incident has gotten, nobody has dedicated themselves to find out if the player could have avoided the goalkeeper.
“I’m disappointed Lukaku hasn’t contacted Hugo.
“Lukaku is a wonderful footballer and I don’t question his integrity. We had a warm hug on the pitch before the game and I’ve maximum respect for him as I think he has for me.
“But from all this excitement from something that is so negative, I find surprising no time was lost trying to study the incident. I don’t want to question Lukaku. He is a young player and wonderfully gifted but I think he could have jumped over [Lloris] perfectly.”
