The Croatian has had to settle for appearances from the bench since Romelu Lukaku’s match winning cameo against West Ham United three and a half months, but manager Roberto Martinez has opted to recall the 27 year old for the third round tie against Harry Redknapp’s men, and in doing so hands Jelavic his 50th Everton start.
Martinez also gives cup starts to Bryan Oviedo, Steven Naismith, Joel Robles and Leon Osman, whose bright substitute appearance earned Everton a deserved point against Stoke three days previous. The diminutive midfielder also captains the side in the absence of Phil Jagielka.
John Stones and Antolin Alcaraz continue in the heart of the Everton defence for the injured Jagielka and Sylvain Distin, whilst Seamus Coleman, Gareth Barry, James McCarthy and Ross Barkley make up the rest of the starting eleven.
Everton’s bench this afternoon consists of Tim Howard, Tony Hibbert, John Heitinga, Steven Pienaar, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas and Apostolos Vellios.
