The Blues boss said that the second goal at The Emirates for either team was vital towards winning the game and asked whether there was enough contact from Gareth Barry to justify Mark Clattenburg awarding the home side the spot kick.
“For me it’s one of those situations where obviously there’s contact, but is there contact enough to give a penalty?” asked Martinez after the game.
“They are difficult decisions and you have to be lucky for them to go in your favour.
“I think it was clear that the second goal was going to change the match completely and that was the case.
“It was vital which was why we wanted to make it an open game and make sure we had the opportunity to score that second goal.
“I think the penalty is a soft call although I can see why he gave it.”
