The Blues went down 1-0 in blistering heat and humidity and Martinez said that the openness of the game surprised him in those conditions.
“It was a fantastic event here in Bangkok and fantastic to see so many Everton fans,” Martinez said. “I thought the Thai people were very welcoming and it was a good exercise.
“It was a difficult game for both teams, to get that little bit of tempo. We tried the best we could with the humidity and overall you are looking at the amount of playing time that we had. Some of the players started to get 60 minutes and others completed 45.
“It was a difficult mental exercise. In many aspects, it’s a type of game where you have to get through much physical pain. It worked well to get some good volume and precision work and in that respect I am really happy.
“It was going to be a tight game because the conditions were difficult for both teams, though I must admit the game was more open than I expected.
“We had a few opportunities to get that first goal and that was vital but overall I really liked the attitude of the young players coming in and giving a really good account of themselves.”
